Tilehurst End Jeff Stelling suggested Taylor would be a good signing for someone during soccer saturday although in Paul Merson's opinion he's a good wingback in the right system but not a good enough defender to play as an orthodox full back

Remind me why ex-Walsall manager Paul Merson is concentrating on "Soccer Saturday" punditry...

Probably pays more, no pressure and you get to sit in the warm. Same reasons Hanson, Shearer, Lineker etc do it, doesn't mean they're bad judges of players or their abilities.

Smoking Kills Dancing Doe I do think Taylor will be a replacement for Shorey.

He won't come here as 2nd choice and won't get in the left wing position over Hunt, rightly imo.

Am I convinced Taylor's a good replacement for Shorey?

No, but I can't think of anyone better we could get to be honest.

Agree with what others have said, is he a left back and is he one of those players whose rep in based on motd highlights?

I hope Shorey stays but also hard pressed to see a better affordable option than Taylor if he goes.

I hav heard rumours that liverpool, surs and villa are in for him. If this is the case then what is the chance of him signing for reading? and if these are the sorts of teams that are interested in him then i probably think he would be a good signing for us.

Fulham have always been interested in him and they bid £1.2million for him in the summer - from what i know though we are favoured out of the 2 clubs

This was true at the end of last season they were the exact 3 clubs that were rumoured to be interested in him - that interest has subsequently cooled....a lot!

However if some of Liverpool's size/status came in then obviously we'd have no chance in getting him to sign, more money, bigger club, more chance of trophys/medals..no competition!

At least there is no chance of Lawrie Sanchez signing Taylor now - unless of course another PL club give him a job in the next 6 weeks!

LATEST:

Taylor is in the dark as to what is happening as no further cotnact from RFC.

Now it could be that the club are waiting to see what happens to Shorey or Hunt but that's even more of a mistake in my eyes.

What is for sure is that whatever you read about Taylor going 'up north' to a club like Bolton, it isn;t going to happen as they're more than happy living where they do.

It would be a terrible shame to miss out on a versatile english player for a relatively small £3million transfer fee.

It could also be that suddenly Redknapp has realised that half is team is going to be missing from this weekend so maybe he's done a u-turn, who knows?

Please can someone have a word with Hammond or Coppell and tell them to sort it out.......

Coppell was quoted in yesterdays EP saying we will not be buying a left sided player.

Interpret that as you wish.

Trouble is that Coppell's quotes do vary like the wind.
A few weeks ago he was saying that we would definitely buy in the transfer window and last week it was toned down to "might".
In my eyes there is a helluva difference.
BTW if Shorey and Hunt were to leave would he just go with er...Goldbourne and the Kanu lad?

Coppell has said on the OS that they have had a couple of 'knock backs' in their search for players.

Same old story, early optimism fades as we fail to land our main transfer targets. Although we never hear the whole story the inability to attract players might just have something to do with the low wages we are offering.

Reading ain't gonna survive in the Prem if we can't pay more in wages.

Coppell also said that we aren't currently interested in any left sided players.
