Hahnemann's Hairdresser If you refuse to take a breath test (provide a sample) it is assumed you are over the limit, and you are warned that this is the case. A breath test takes 5 mins at most, it is far, far less hassle to co-operate with the police than to kick up a fuss and refuse to take a test because you've got the hump. Less than 2 weeks ago he said he'd rather be called a 'human' a 'footballer', I think the large majority of humans would have taken the test in that sitution.

Spot on. If, and I only say if, he refused to cooperate because he had the hump, he is very immature indeed.
There are times in life when you have to cooperate with the police even if they are being obnoxious. A breath test is one such occasion; failure to cooperate has to mean a ban otherwise any drunk would simply refuse a test.
Kitson's choice of language (assuming he was quoted correctly) when dissing the FA cup also showed a lack of maturity even if the sentiment was understandable.
None of this should affect his selection for Reading. He has been in superb form this season. We have had other drink drivers at the club over the years.
He would be advised to just keep quiet for a while now.

Good post IMO. Keep him in the side because he has been outstanding...but hopefully a little chastened.

Indeed, Maurice Evans for one, and they wanted a statue of him. It can't be long before there are calls for a minute's applause for DK at the next game.

Not only deserves to be dropped for being a self righteous prick and be fined all his wages for the rest of the season and have them donated to the Anti Drink Drive campaign.

Up until two days ago I had an awful lot of respect for the man, however, for me drink driving, refusing to give a breath test, and, being rude to the Old Bill have put him lower than Leroy in my estimation.

For me there should be a mandatory prison sentance for anyone caught drink driving, plus community service and a ten year driving ban. If you drink and drive you are a first class piece of sh*t, my old man included.

Rant over.

Unfortunately for Kitson he has now set himself up for a fall, particularly in the press. He's extremely outspoken when he wants to be, and some of it has been refreshing to hear. However, to refuse to provide a sample when asked to by the police, is, in my eyes, tantamount to confirming he thought he was over the limit. Better, in my eyes, that if he knew he wasn't, and had the hump that he'd been pulled over, to take the test, prove he was innocent and then moan about the police afterwards.

As for some other posts on this thread, people in glass houses shouldn't throw stones. Driving while under the influence of alcohol is a crime, whether you're a footballer, a shelf stacker or the Queen of England. I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of people who have posted on this thread have driven whilst over the limit at some point in their lives. I, however, have not and never will.

TBH, I don't think he should be picked for the Villa game.

Driving whilst under the influence of alcohol is not erring, it's knowingly breaking the law. However, thinking that refusing to give a breath test to police because you know you're not over the limit and you think they're just picking on you because you're a footballer is to err, imho.

Royalwaster You guys astound me - OK, it was a silly thing to do. But none of us know the facts. How much had he drunk? Was he speeding? Was he driving erratically?

Are you guys saying that you have never driven when you may have been over the limit? I have ... I'm not proud of it ... but I've done it. And I know people in all walks of life who do it regularly - some of them are very intelligent.

He's been charged with failing to provide a breath test and failing to cooperate in failing to provide a breath test. Why would he do that if he didn't have cause to worry about the outcome or was incapable of providing a test?

And you don't have to be driving erratically or speeding to be deadly when you have drunk over the limit.

As others have said - it would be a bit rich if Lita can get castigated for his wrong doings away from football but Kitson was immune from criticism for his.

To do the latter would suggest to me that you are a complete and utterly stupid merchant banker!

If you're a rich PL footballer and you think the police are picking on you, then the sensible thing to do is cooperate and then set your lawyer on them for the harrassment.

And Mr Kitson, it can't be that hard affording a cab (or even a chaffeur) despite the low wages that RFC pay. Still you're going to have to find the money for one/other or both soon!

It would be far too easy to bring you in and throw you back but i'm beyond those days.

As for Kits, some would say this is Karma for belittling the greatest cup in the world, others would say, doofus.

His court date is the day before the Man U game. What are the odds he'll miss training and be dropped for the game? (Do they train Fridays?)

Kitson is HUMAN, he made a mistake, we all make mistakes!

Yes he might of been drink driving, but atleast he got stopped and didn't cause any serious injury etc etc.

I'm sure he will get a massive warning, but i think he is intelligent enough to admit he was wrong and learn from his mistakes.

oh and... DAVE KITSON, what a bargain what a bargain!!

And if you need a driver to get you to te training ground etc. I'll do it if you pay me!
