Royal Rother It really does make sense to defer to Coppell's superior knowledge (even I don't know better than him) so I suppose we should believe that he thinks Pearce is not up to it yet...

I don't think it does. Coppell is a football manager after all, not Vladimir Putin. We have struggled all season, and problems highlighted by nobbers in the summer have played themselves out since August. I can admit that frustration I feel in the results is as much borne out of our inadequate preparation in the summer as the woeful tactics and selections now.

Management at this club simply cannot be pro-active, and I don't understand it.

What's happened to the old "Coppell is God" views and the Sir Steve references. What a fickle bunch we are

I'm lead to believe Steve Coppell doesn't even read HNA?, let alone take note of all the worthy advice given here. That appalls me.

Perhaps this shocking behaviour could be addressed by adding an additional line in all future managers' contracts.

I think that kind of says it all really. He's a successful football manager, you're not.

Of course we all have the right to express our opinions but on things like the merits of a player I suspect most have never seen play (Pearce) then it's all a bit baseless and therefore pointless questioning his competence as a result of that decision.

Even though I am very disappointed in that decision of course!!

Where did Gunnar play? If it was centre back then I think SC HAS made a boo-boo. Gunnar hasn't played very well this season, has not played for three games, so isn't match fit, and he is not a centre back. And they had big strong ox Carew to face, so surely a natural centre back (Pearce) should have played. This is not "wise after the event" - see the Pearce thread.

And some are saying that we don't know how good Pearce is. He was a sub at Spurs, so Coppell must think he was near enough.

Ex players usually put in good performances against former clubs so i can see why De La cruz was played today.

Anyone know how quick Pearce is? If he's quick then today would of been the day to play him.

According to Bournemouth fans Pearce lacks a bit of pace.

And how influential could Hunt be in the outcome of that battle.

Actually on today's showing Keane can have him!

It's less a question of competence and more one of conservatism. He's just a very conservative guy and people of a different mentality will feel that it's time to take some risks. My guess is that as long as we're out of the bottom three, there won't be any risk taking and we can look forward to more of the same, on the pitch and here on Team. I don't we're going to suddenly see Reading transformed in to a good team; it's all about survival.

Success is looking as though it might be deserting him for a while though!

Maybe Arch. I dunno, I just find it ludicrous at this stage of the club's development (and of the season) that fans who are not actually highly successful football managers, or incredibly shrewd businessmen, should be questioning the ability / competence / approach (whatever) of both the manager to run the football team, and the Chairman to run the business, of Reading Football Club.

Express opinions by all means, but some of it I just find feeble-minded and distasteful.

So Coppell knows best on team selection, team tactics etc etc. What is there left to have a valid opinion on, out of interest?

I think Arch makes a very valid point about Coppell being very conservative we've certainly seen that influence his decisions in the past. The pressure Coppell is under to pick the team obvioulsy makes it a lot more diffcult to take the gambles we'd all like to make from the behind a keyboard.

Coppell himself has accepted that he's made mistakes in the past so I see no reason why HNA should suddenly claim he's infallable.

Wally really is a Wally. Apart from messing up with the goals from set pieces we competed well against Villa.

Well that's all fixed then - all we need to do is get our opponents to agree not to take advantage of our appalling defending!

At least the window is open and now He knows where we have to strengthen. If we'd won, or even got a draw, people would be thinking that everything was alright and no need to buy anybody.

And was the 2nd goal dodgy? It didn't look like it from what I saw. The first one I'm sure was offside though.

Here's the problem. We need at least one central defender and one central midfielder who are considerably better than we've got. Now, who?
