Coppelled Streets Gardner?

Exactly What I was thinking. Good age, strong, but not the best man marker. His hight makes him very conspicuous when he gets things wrong!

I'd be very happy if it our guess was true, a kind of Titus Bramble player; good when good but bad when bad, if you know what I mean.

He must be 5th or 6th choice at spurs by now, depending on whether Rocha is still considered a spurs player!

Gardener 5th or 6th choice at Spurs,............... 1st choice at Reading, says a lot about how high our ambitions, thoughts for the furure and present expectations are

It seems that this defender is a CB. I find this silly as we already have 4 CBs. Then Bennett, Sodjie and A Pearce aswell. I would be disappointed if we signed a CB unless they were much better then what we already have. I think in the transfer window we need a rw and cm and we are sorted. (unless we can sign players that can improve the first xi)

Our defence has been poor this season. If we really do bring in a player with proven Prem experience to challenge for a place, I welcome it.

Agree on the other two points though, although Marek well be the CM we need.

But we have the joint worse defence in the league.
Does that not tell you the 7 CB's we have are obviously not good enough?

Sonko - Been a liability since coming back
Ivar - Has looked yards off the pace this season
Duberry - Seems to lack concentration & can make silly but if you ask me most consistent
Bikey - One week brilliant, one week atrocious
Bennett - Did OK at Saints, but couldn't get near starting 11 @ first
Sodje - Far too rash & doesn't seem up to Premiership football
Pearce - 19 year old kick, no experience yet.

Seems to me CB is as important as RW & CM.

If our first choice backline were available you'd have a point. Fact is they aren't and might not be for weeks/ over a month. You can't play Premiership football with makeshift defences, you will get absolutely murdered.

Anthony Gardner is a very good shout and someone that certainly fits the bill in many ways. Even if it's just a loan.

Experienced doesn't have to mean old. I think it will be a young centre half with a good few seasons of Prem football under his belt and currently playing in The Prem.

I think it's vital we don't sign someone just to cover for AON. We need someone who can come in, play with Ivar and then replace him. Nothing against Ivar who's done so well for the club.

But we just need to do better to take the club forward.

Having said all that it will end up being Darren Powell!!

The whole year inn From one of the relegated sides.

I am having visions of Chris Armstrong or Danny Shittu

I'd go with that.

The CB have been poor this season but i think a huge problem has been the midfield in front of them These CB managed to keep it tight last season i think if they had a better CM in front of them we wouldnt heve conceded as many goals.

That's what happens when you give someone too many chances. Harper has been trying to do two peoples jobs too often this year and we've suffered as a result. I'd rather we played De La Cruz in midfield than Gunnarsson at the moment, at least he sticks to his task.

I do think losing Sid is the root of our problems at the back.

Hopefully Marek will provide the quality leaving Harper to concentrate on his defensive duties.

Marek needs to have Sids energy as well as his quality though.

But Harper has improved greatly with Sidwell leaving. He now has more freedom to get forward and his goals this season are a result of that.

I'd prefer a tough tackling midfielder to partner Harps.

If the czech bloke is good as offensive midfileder, will Harper stay or be replaced in 1st team by Cisse - did a great job in defense this week, could be an excellent defensive midfielder?

If it's an "ex premiership defender" I'll opt for Erik Edman. Just hope it's not Ugo Ehiogu as I believe he is available.

If it's "a premiership defender" I'll opt for Anthony Gardner.

Whoever it is I just hope he is big powerful and quick, as we do not seem to have these qualities at the back at the moment.
