Great game! A very fine effort from the boys. I love the fact that Marek got some time in right away.

MiniRoyal To be fair, we've given utd a decent game. Cisse looks like he might be the answer at CB and Matejovsky seems to have slotted right in. Hunt in the middle could be a revelation.

Despite the loss I'm 10-fold more positive than I was a few days ago.

Agree totally. From even the short glimpse of Marek I think it's Harper who will be most fearful for his place.

If only Kitson had pulled off that lob.

Yes, I suppose that
arek and Harps are similar players.
Remains to be seen. If Marek is a real playmaker, Harper's water carrier skills may be put to better effect.

Looking at MAreks distribution and ability to pick out a player, could he play on the right wing? Didn't look massively quick from what I saw though.

Looked like a composed central midfield playmaker to me. What is amazing is that at the end of a game when everything was moving at 100 miles an hour he was taking his time and picking a pass. Very cool customer!

So that's why, it wasn't us raising our game then!

You forgot this though about Cisse:

The lofty centre-back was immense as he outmuscled the Argentine, while his partner Ingirmarsson - until Rooney's goal, admirably marshalled the striker.

It was both. You don't seriously think United were at their best?

Why? Who were they missing that was critical for their 'best'?

No-one, but they played nowhere near their best.

Louis Saha put Deep Heat in all their pants because he is fed up of being injured?

How should I know?

Reading were fantastic today, and United were nowhere near as good as they can be.

Perhaps because "Reading were fantastic today"?

Very Positive game from Royals.
We had 47% of possessions.
Does not matter the result. We did our best against Champion.
Way to go!

Because Reading were damn good obviously.

United were playing at about 80% as far as I could see. Not quite as fast, not quite as incisive as they could be.

We got to 75 minutes as their equals but always looked like it could be 1-0 at any minute.

So, I', impressed. We played so well. What I'd like the denialist/apologist brigade to consider is how much better this season would be if we'd played Bolton, Sunderland, Middlesboro', Fulham and Birmingham with the same effort and application.

We have such a good side and too many times this season it has not played to its potential. Today made me actually quite proud to be a Reading fan. I can take a 2-0 defeat at home when we play like that, as opposed to how we played against, say, Portsmouth.

Not a great example - I think 11 men would have given Pompey more of a game. Villa is the best (recent) example of us at our worst I think.
