papereyes United were playing at about 80% as far as I could see. Not quite as fast, not quite as incisive as they could be.

That's up from the 75% you posted on the Cisse=God thread.

Platypuss
papereyes I can take a 2-0 defeat at home when we play like that, as opposed to how we played against, say, Portsmouth.

Not a great example - I think 11 men would have given Pompey more of a game. Villa is the best (recent) example of us at our worst I think.

If I'd said Villa, some pedant would have pointed out that that was away.

I think Portsmouth is a pretty reasonable comparison as we gave them the red card in Sonko's poor positioning to get that striker through on goal and then gave them the goal with a basic handling error. Two relatively unforced errors putting the game byond us.

If we had played like that against Fulham, we would have comfortably beaten them and wouldn't be considering relegation. Likewise those other four games - Birmingham, Sunderland (A), Bolton and Middlesboro'.

seahawk10 Great game! A very fine effort from the boys. I love the fact that Marek got some time in right away.

Agreed - I was SOOOO delighted to see him on the bench and when he actually came on...

That act by Coppell (and based on the lack of playing Fae) must mean he's really found himself in practice. He looked VERY good and the passing.

Cisse - agreed, he looked very good, quick, and made some excellent challenges.

Last thing - I'm really happy reading the positive responses here after a loss - I turned off the tube feeling very good about the team.

Against the best squad in the PL, we really held-up well.

Finally Coppell puts a decent side out and drops Gunnarsson and we look a good side. The irony is that Hunt had his worst game of the season playing out of position today but was still more effective than Boris.

Obviously Cisse was man of the match and thought Matejovsky looked very intelligent and sharp when he came on - hopefully he'll be given a chance.

If we'd played that team at Villa Park we'd have come away with three points and although I thought United shaded it, 2-0 flattered them and 1-0 would have been a fairer result.

More of the same please Coppell.

Decent game against a not-quite-at-their-best Man United. Some obvious plusses – Cisse the stand-out and a few negatives – Convey, really, really short of confidence, Hunt never a CM.

I think if Coppell goes with that formation and most of the personnel, then we've got a real chance of survival. Move Hunt to left midfield, bring Marek alongside Harper and possibly swap Duberry for Inga would give us a team, more than a match for most.

Just why are effing ManU players allowed to show blatent dissent with impunity at virtually every decision that goes against them?!! They are as bad as Cheatski and a disgrace to the game.

Not only did the officials completely ignore the dissent but by the end of the game they were actually giving in to them!

Ball goes out of play for a throw to ManU. Evra goes to take it but not before stealing a good 10-15 yards. Asst ref clearly tells him to come back and points to where the throw is to be taken from. Evra argues and gives him a stream of abuse, which Asst ref responds to by kindly moving up to where Evra wants to take the throw from and allowing him to take it just as he had wanted to!

He wasn't dropped - he was injured.

Which begs a rather obvious question.

Will he be back in the side when he's recovered?

I bloody well hope not.

Really enjoyable game-good to see us go for it rather than try to sneak a goal in a 4-5-1.
As the rest of the season pans out I hope that today wasn't just about raising our game against a top team but more about how we can make chances against even the better sides.
All of that with Convey still looking like a schoolboy footballer,Hunt showing us that he is never a central midfielder and Lita looking like a Championship player-it shows how well everyone else played.
I thought Marcus (what a save in the first half) and Cisse were both terrific today.

He was in his technical area and gesturing to his bench.

Fantastic game, don't think I've ever felt so positive about a game we've lost before.

So many positives...all the usual suspects playing as we know they can, Cisse a revelation at the back and Marek looks an exciting prospect.

I for one don't believe that Cisse would have played there if Gunnar wasn't injured, and I'll be seriously upset if Cisse doesn't keep this position for Chelsea. Marek - a few of those passes were top drawer. He didn't seem to know know what his role was, just went roving about everywhere (maybe that was his role!) but it worked. I hope both of them are given the chance to establish themselves in those positions.

The only negative I can think of is Convey, again not really in the game.

Archie's penalty Looked like a composed central midfield playmaker to me. What is amazing is that at the end of a game when everything was moving at 100 miles an hour he was taking his time and picking a pass. Very cool customer!

Best thing was that 'taking his time' in his terms was still lightning quick for most players.
