aaronrfc didnt we have leo roget on loan (from stockport or someone like that) at the end of the year we got promoted to the old div 1. 01/02 i think. not sure he even made any appearances

Think he just played away at Swindon IIRC, signed that day to cover for an injury crisis, remember turning up at the ground and wondering who the hell was playing at centre half!!! May also have had Ben Roberts in goal that night too, another emergency loan i think

EDIT - Think Roberts got injured in the warm up, the HNA? report of the game says Whitehead 'returned soon than anybody expected', im sure i remember Roberts being their that night though

Neil Smith plodded away for us in midfield in the early Mad Stad years, (in fact, was he a relic from the EP era?), and Tony Barras (did we sign him from York City?) never really did much wrong in the centre of defence.

I can't believe (well, maybe I can) I saw Robert Fleck in Shooters more times than I saw him on the pitch

And wasn’t Ray Houghton still waddling around our midfield when we first moved to our shiny new stadium?

No, he wasn't a relic from the EP era. Believe it or not, Tommy Burns decided to stiffen up the midfield and brought in Neil Smith and Grant (Forgot his first name.....) just before he was sacked.

Yes. I believe he played a part in the very first game at the Mad Stad against Luton.

Michael Branch, on loan from Wolves sometime around 02/03? Came on as a second half sub, pulled his hamstring after about 12 minutes and got subbed off. Never played for us again.

I have a feeling he may have actually made 2 appearance in total but that ruins my story so I'm sticking to the above.

From strap's table I think I've seen the majority of those play, although it brings back bad memories in some cases! But who the bloody hell is Andrew Wright? I'm also surprised at how few appearances Dean Morgan made.

That Swindon game that someone mentioned was Roget's only start, and Phil Whitehead was such a late inclusion, he had to borrow a swindon goalie top

Does anybody remember a striker we loaned from Chelsea in the early Madejski days? He only played around 5 games but I seem to remember him scoring 4 goals and being a bit of a Hero for a Day!

Anyone remember his name and know what happened to him?

Andrew Wright was a loanee left winger from Leeds who played about 15mins as a sub. Any one remember Graham Potter actually playing for us aswell? Left winger I think, a tall blonde fella.

AndyRFC Tony Malessa, a goalkeeper signed as cover, don't think he ever played though

Do you mean Frank Talia?

Elroy Kromheer is a personal favourite of mine.

No mention of Neville Roach or Byron Glasgow

That's Mark Nicholls. I believe he ended up at Hendon. Bizarre really that a player can go from the Premiership to obscurity so quickly.

I seem to remember him coming on as a sub during the 3-3 draw at Bristol City. Or have I confused that with another Bristol City game?

Malessa was signed as emergency cover for a couple of weeks and was an unused goalkeeping substitute in a few games. The only game he played was for the reserves (an away game with only two Reading fans present) but he kept a clean sheet. Talia was around for a bit longer.

I'd just like to point out that so far there is no-one mentioned in the read who I had forgotten....
