I remember Alex Smith scoring with a cracking free kick in a pre-season friendly, then swiftly despatched on loan to a non-league outfit, never to be seen again. Where is he now?

AndyRFC That Swindon game that someone mentioned was Roget's only start, and Phil Whitehead was such a late inclusion, he had to borrow a swindon goalie top

Was that the game that was a thunderous 0-0 draw? Despite the scoreline it was a great game with 3 sent off, ours was Sammy Igoe if I'm right. As far as I can remember Roget had a good game and I was disappointed we never kept him. Also agree with the others Whitehead was supposed to be injured and we were all surprised when he played. Can't remember who shoiuld have been in goal.

Tony Thorpe was a loan for about 1 month, despite his record of goalscoring he managed 1 goal, a penalty, in his last game v Preston

Tony Barras, got him on loan from York, then signed him on deadline day and in the summer went to Walsall for about 20k.

Can't see any mentions for Chris Casper and Neil Clement - or John Polston. Then there's Alan Maybury plus a rumour doing the rounds that Sean Evers managed to play part of a game at the Mad Stad once.

Finally Grant Brebner who scored the first goal at the Mad Stad.

Mark Bowen

Wax Jacket bit harsh to call Steve Brown a 'forgotten man' of the era, he was a pretty decent player for us before his retirement.

fair to say defensive stalwart of the Pardew era i'd venture.

bmwfrenchie
NewburyURZFan little black guy that used to play on the right wing i think. if i remember he got in trouble for something, maybe failed drugs test. any ideas?

that was byron glasgow i think. who was the centre half we got on loan from newcastle under burns, he was good as was mark mceever(not sure about spelling). going back to older days remember gareth davies. centre back.

Yep it was Byron Glasgow.

I remember at the time there was a lot of disharmony with a bit of a Welsh contingent being given the cold shoulder by Burns, ie Andrew Legg, Gareth Davies and Michael Meaker

The "Elm Park Disappeared" - as The Whiff memorably labelled them. ISTR Parky was one of the 6 too - and came so close to joining Wycombe as a result.

Aubery Boyce
Sickboy Andrew Wright was a loanee left winger from Leeds who played about 15mins as a sub. Any one remember Graham Potter actually playing for us aswell? Left winger I think, a tall blonde fella.

Really don't remember him. Strap - which game did he play?

Looking back, that team was FRIGHTENING!!!!! (Not in a good way!)

Alan Maybury. On loan from somewhere (might have been Leeds). About his only contribution was to get a straight red card at home to Man City early in a match that we needed to win to keep (faint) play-off hopes alive - we didn't!

I think he also played against us for Leicester that day in 2006.

Burnsy's 2 scots men, jimmy crawford and the other guy, Brayson, no recollection of a 1st name though. The drug scandalled 2 guys as well, Glasgow and ..... Tony Barras, Howie was decent and finally but not last on this trip down memory lane, Thorpe.

SpaceCruiser Wasn't there a winger who came up from the youth ranks during the Tommy Burns era. Name might have been Alex Haddow?
I think it was the other wing, Haddow was right wing and this lad was left.

Mark McKeever - Best start by any loanee, 2 goals away to Stoke!

Can't remember at the moment the name of the left back we had on loan from Chelsea, Scored a cracking long range goal though.

Joe Gamble, hobnob legend... never really made it into the first team, back at Cork City now and one of their best players which suggests we may have missed out considering the other players we've taken from Cork.
