Barry the bird boggler EP agrees, Nicky looks set to sign a new improved deal on £25k a week in the next week or so.
As we all know though contracts don't really mean much and if we go down the clever boy would have insisted on a clause that says he be allowed to leave.

Nicky Shorey has decided his long-term future is with Reading and he's ready to shun Newcastle in order to pen a new contract. Will his decision hinder international aspirations?

PEARCEY Delighted if Shorey was staying..........have felt he would do so over the last couple of months as he has seemed more focussed.
If we go down he will probably go and I think thats fair enough.

Victor Meldrew Prepare for announcement from the club about this being like a new signing and shows the club's determination to hang on to our best players blah,blah.....
All of which might mean that all those signings that were going to happen aren't and that Nicky's form this season has been so poor that nobody other than Derby or Sunderland want him.
If it means that he starts playing again as well as he did last year very few of us would have any complaints I would imagine.
