Nice to see we've finally signed a right winger.

Ideal
Arch Even a right footed right wing pub player would have improved the team, and Kebe did not play for us in the Championship.

You assume he is right footed. How do you know?
If this guy is the next Ronaldo, or even half as good as Hunt, I will be very pleased. Even more so if this means the non-commited tackle-shy Convey is dropped.

I think it might have something to do with Hammond describing him as right footed. But thats just a guess.

cmonurz Presumably he is match-fit, so he should play against Bolton.

Is that out next reserve fixture?

Are we sure they've said he's a right winger and not a right whinger?

How much did we actually pay for this guy? I know they nearly always say undisclosed but usually theres a vague figure floating about.

Was playing on-loan in the french 2nd div, so he was probably traded for un bouteille de vin and a bag of chips.

"Our scouts' reports were all positive but he is not the finished article. He is going to need work and have to adjust to the English style of football," Coppell said.

So unless this guy makes a massive step up, it looks like we still need a right winger?

Blue and White Toucan I for one will rest judgement until I actually see him play.

RFC have watched him play and report that he is a 1) A winger (right and left) 2) Has pace and 3) Been very influential in the games he was in (OK agree this is French Div 2)
out of curiousity, why does he need to have pace?

Sure, it's an asset, but I'd rather have a slow bugger like Little who actually has some skill on the ball than someone who can run fast but can barely cross a ball. Pace is completely overrated in the English game in my opinion. We seem to spend our time looking for players with attributes which compensate for their lack of skill rather than looking for players who don't need to compensate in the first place.

Stranded Intriguing signing at this point.

Sounds more like a desperate signing if you ask me.

Well the club reckon he has been on their radar for quite a while, which would imply that he isn't a desperate signing.

Just because he hasn't had a distinguished career in France doesn't mean he isn't any good. One position where Coppell doesn't normally make errors with signings is wingers (Convey, Hunt, Little) so I am prepared to wait and see him play a few games before I judge him.

well apart from signing paul brooker a few years back!! It is a little worrying that since kebe joined lens as an 18 year old he has played no games in 6 seasons for them and from what we are told only a douzen or so games for chateroux and boulogne on loan-this alone must be pretty demoralising. Again looks like a 'raw talent' type that Coppell has spotted but as others have noted lets hope that at 24 he can make an impact sooner rather than later as we have had this before with Bennett/Sodje. Main thing is that it is good to see some competition on the wing now-finger crossed it goes well!

DELIGHTED WE FINALLY HAVE A RIGHT WINGER.

GREAT NEWS.

WELL DONE COPPELL ET AL I KNEW YOU WOUNDT LET US DOWN

He might be shite, who knows.

But to get any player to come to our club, with our wage structure, and when look like we're gong down is a HUGE achievement.

WELL DONE RFC!!!

AND WELCOME TO THE ROYALS KEBE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

100% agree.

Difference between Ronaldo and Lennon? Ronaldo would be a great player even if he had the pace of Jimmy Quinn. Lennon would be playing in League 1.

Focher
Hatt-rick Good signing hopefully!
Nice to get a bit more strengh and depth in midfield...now just to sort out defence and goalkeeping positions.

Goalkeeping? Why do we need to sort that out?

I feel we could do with another keeper to a higher standard to realistically push hahnemann for his place. Its obviously somewhere we looking considering the recent unsuccessful trialist

So where does this leave James Henry?

by windjammer » 28 Jan 2008 21:29

Now that Kebe has signed presumably Henry will go out on loan again and then in a season's time (or less) be let go just like Simon Cox is about to (allegedly). Another great success for Royals Academy. When will we see one of them becoming a REGULAR member of the first team squad as opposed to the occasional token seat on the bench and if they're really lucky 5 minutes in a cup game? Don't you think that both Henry and Cox would be capable of playing well in the French 2nd division as well? Maybe if they had we would have noticed them more and payed over the odds for them. Don't get me wrong, now that he has signed I hope Kebe does well and is in the 1st team sooner rather than later, but what incentive does it give to our young trainees?

Thanks for this - very interesting.

1. Left wing run - cuts in and scores with right foot from edge of box.
2. Starts move from left wing and continues run into box and finishes with left foot from close range.
3. Assist - short left footed pass from left wing. Goal - strong run from left midfield - right-footed dink over the keeper.
4. Goal 1 - Puts away loose ball from a corner with right foot from left of goal. Goal 2 - Roofs a left-foot first-time finish from a knock-down right wing corner. Position is from right side of goal.

Looks very tidy with both feet and looks fast and strong. Boulogne looked to be playing him as a left winger.

He looks to be the right sort of signing, the step-up will be his first big challenge.
But having him around might help Fae to bed in.
