Finding a new Owner - Billionnaires to take things forward!

by Blue Blooded » 29 Jan 2008 09:39

Mr Madjeski wants a billionnaire to move the club forward.

I am bored at the moment and have therefore come to the conclusion that Mr Mad is swamped with the paperwork relating to transfer deals to bring Ronaldinho to his spiritual destiny and besides has no credit on his phone.

Here are a couple of ideas I have with their pros and cons - feel free to come forward with the individuals who you feel would be a good or bad match.

The Queen - This Royal appointment would make perfect sense in the Royal County. Her excellent organisational skills steadied the ship after Britain's relegation from Top Power status. She brought in players like Thatcher (Right Wing) Livingstone (Left Wing) and that golden boy Blair (Free role down the centre). Clearly has a head for a bargain (See Viz Profanisaurus). Has the spending power and not immune to having a flutter or making an investment. Would have the authority one thinks to educate Lita - certainly would not be amused by his tendency to lose his head but would at least show him that having a Corgi doesn't neccesarily cost shit loads in petrol.
The following passage has been taken from some fascist 'news'paper:

The Queen could blow out the candles on her 75th birthday cake last weekend, content in the knowledge that her fortune has risen by £25million this year to £300 million—pushing her up one place on the list to 105th. Even Her Majesty was not immune from dot.com mania, with investments in two small Internet ventures, both of which have proved disastrous. But the bulk of her investment income still derives from the relative safety of blue-chip companies.

Robson Walton - Owner of Walmart and could promote the profitability of the club by converting the dome into an out of town hypermarket. This may mean that matches will have to be switched to a time that would minimise congestion but an advantage would be that match tickets could enable the club to reduce the cost of parking to £8 and also of course the supermarket could serve as a creche facility for partners not wishing to watch a blade of grass move in the wind.

I remember a Watford owner being a bit partial but that didn't stop the glory days coming to Vicarage Road!

Bill Gates : Recently retired from his position at Microsoft, so must be getting a bit borred with all his free time. With Microsoft UK HQ also in Reading, he can come and watch games and then do business afterwards.

How much does Mr Mad want for the club?

It just strikes me that every other team can find a billionaire owner or two from the far east or otherwise, yet something appears to be puttng them Reading.

My last calculations put the value of the club at about £118 million.

currently we're enlarging the stadium, not doing pretty brilliantly but are also not in dire financial straits which means jm is in no urgency to sell therefore the valuation to meet is his rather than through market forces

therefore this i think would cool any interest... maybe next year things could be different

The Stadium will only be enlarged IF we retain our Premier League status. Of this, there is no doubt.

It would not make financial sense to enlarg for the Championship !

Might be wrong but I'm sure JM has said work to enlarge the stadium will commence in the summer irrespective of what division we are in next season.

His ethos is that we need a bigger stadium so that the club can capitalise on the available support now that permission has been granted.

I don't think you can say that it will not make financial success - because by that leap of logic the stadium would not have been built in the first place.

This club has expanded at quite a spectacular rate over the last 5-10 years - it seems likely that this will continue. There is room to grow and the money to ensure that the next spurt can be accomodated when it happens.

So much so that you chose to both underline and bold an imagined contradiction!!!

By the way - are you still smarting about 1960? I would say that history shows that the better man won!!!

Haven't Derby just been bought for more than half of that figure?

We aren't worth that amount and that's why buyers are shunning Reading Football Club!

Is that the Balance Sheet Value, or have you added in something for goodwill etc?

Microsoft has traditionally not marketed itself through sport and sporting events. Here in the US, there are no Microsoft Stadiums or Microsoft Bowl Games. Even though Microsoft is a global brand, its logo does not appear on any football team's shirt. Pity though, he's one guy who could outspend Abromovich.

£300m doesn't equal a billion

I never said it did. However the figure was intended to serve as an illustration that she is quite rich. It is based on a figure given out for the purposes of expediency and PR - so therefore may or may not represent her true wealth. Charles and co's pocket money is I assume not taken into consideration either. So what is a couple of zeroes between friends?

So what you are saying here is that the sword is mightier then the pen?

I bought a few(I know small fry)Iowa State Cyclones Football shirts back from Iowa for friends which dont appear to have any brand names on them.I was suprised because even the park teams carry a logo on them here.
