Different tack on the signing here from Coppell:

strap "Said Royals’ boss: “I haven’t seen him live to be honest"
"Kebe has played the majority of games this season in the French second division"
“That’s the gamble,” insisted Coppell. “I must admit when I knew about the situation I asked exactly the same question"
“Realistically he’s not the finished article. He’s going to need to work hard and he’s going to need to adjust to the English style of football"
"Kebe will not be available to face Chelsea at Stamford Bridge in the Premier League tomorrow night (7.45pm kick-off) as he has a hamstring strain"

No comment necessary.

Best of luck JK - reckon you will need it .... unless you are Mali's Kevin Doyle of course!

Don't you think we could use the same match report from the last 2 games with Coventry? We go 1 nil up without playing particularly well, Coventry come out 2nd half a team transformed, 2-1 the final result.

New looking board, same old shit.

I didn't realise the Board of Directors had changed their looks but you are right!

A gamble, not seen live, will take time to adjust and injured!

The Little, Oster & Seol situation repeated again in stark contradiction to what the manager himself was telling us needed doing just a few weeks back.

What happens if results go against us tonight, we get hammered tomorrow and Cisse shows he perhaps isn't the ideal centre back that one game suggested. Make do with what we've got? At least we won't go bust when we are relegated........

The bloke has a slight strain ans will most likely be available to play at the weekend, it's not like he's been out for weeks.

Yes, Coppell hasn't seen him live but we have a decent scouting network and he has been recommended time and again by them. As ideal as it would be it is not always possible for the manager to see every player in the flesh before signing them.

Ideal
RoyalBlue I don't know why we would bring in someone we've not seen play.

THey have seen him play, just not Coppell personally.

Do you really think that all managers at every club see EVERY player they sign before they do the deal?

Is that what scouts are for?

Whoa, steady there tiger. You may be the local gunslinger... but hot news, the wild west has already been won! No need to shoot the messenger. Merely drawing to the board's attention some facts Sir Steve has provided.

Dear Jimmy,

You may as well not bother to unpack and clear off home, you're obviously not welcome here. I'm afraid you are just not good enough for this footballing giant old chap. We are hoping to get either Ronaldo, Artetta or Lennon to play on the right for us and our old manager has gone a bit senile and lost his eye for a player, I mean look at that Czech fellow.

Sorry for the inconvenience.

According to the Post:

"The 24-year-old attacking midfielder is comfortable playing on either wing, although he claims his best position is on the left  or up front."

I was willing to go along with a ligue 2 unknown who didn't even make it into the Malian side for the ACN because I thought we were finally getting a true right winger...not someone for whom it's his third preference.

West Stand Flash Coppell & Tony Mowbray - Two of the most boring negative stnuc you are ever likely to hear talk about football.

compared to the entertaining and uplifting posts from you and your old man I suppose?
This signing did not fill me with one bit of joy

has anything ever?

To be fair, Mali's midfield squad does include two players from the French Ligue 1, two from Sevilla, one from Real Madrid and one that's just moved from Liverpool to Juventus for £8.5m. Pretty stiff competition all things considered.

This signing did not fill me with one bit of joy & I know for certain that was the case for 99.9% of other Reading fans.

BORED!!!!

Chip off the old block. Just a shame you haven't inherited the sense of humour.

I'll reserve judgement until I see him play.

You've signed Jimmy Kebe, you've got a few players coming in from France now.
We, like a lot of people, focus a fair amount on the French league. Not always the whole league but the top teams, and fewer games in the second division. I've had various people to see him, I have had tapes of him, I've not seen him live myself, but I have had great reports. We have had right side problems and he can play left or right. He has pace, which I always like in a footballer, and it was just an opportunity for us to bring another one in.

If he can't get a game at Lens what makes you think he's good enough for the Premier League?
I don't know, that is the gamble. When I knew about the situation I asked exactly the same question. You judge on the evidence of your own eyes, and what was in front of me was positive. He is not the finished article, he needs work and to adjust to the English style of football. We just thought it was probably enough and we have a gap. We had the injury at the time we made the decision, John Oster was off and Glen Little is still some way off. One injury means chopping and changing and playing people who are left-footed on the right side position. It just seemed like the right fit at that moment.

Will he play at Chelsea? It's been said he went on strike?
No, he has done his hamstring so he is going to do a fitness test this morning to see where he is in relation to our fitness levels. He doesn't speak any English, he will be a week or so, we have only just got him a flat, he needs to find his feet. I know there was a story somewhere, but I don't think he went on strike, he was injured, he has had a hamstring injury, that is why he didn't train with us this morning.

How much harder does it make it that he doesn't speak English?
I don't think he listens to me anyway! It doesn't make it harder because we have so many French speakers. It is not much of an issue really, it would be great if I could just sit him down for half an hour and tell him everything, show him a few videos and explain everything, but in football it's the universal language. Speak to Fergie about it, he has players who don't speak English and he has Carlos who can speak five languages so that can only help, but whereas here there's Cockneys and so on!

At what point will Spacey stop supporting Reading due to the increased "French-ness" of our squad...

Perhaps the team should run out to the 'allo 'allo theme.
