Actually think this is JM's big gamble...
Why can Bolton afford Cahill and Taylor but we have to make do with unknown imports who may take six monthe to come up to speed.? Bolton have a smaller average gate than us and access to the same TV money. Now I know they sold Anelka for £15m but really that sort of money should be available from the TV cash anyway. The reason Bolton can do it and we cant is simple; we wont pay full Prem wages to players so we only get wannabies.
This is largely becuase JM dislikes the level of wages in the Prem; this is the main reason he wants to sell in my view.
We have seen approx £70m in the last two seasons yet have spent less than £6... where is it going? I suspect its going to pay off JM's loans to the club. That way he will graduallly back out of the club even without finding a Billioinaire buyer.I'd be interested in the views of those of you who have seen the club accounts...
By the way I'll be at Everton shouting as loud as ever and have really enjoyed the last 15 years thanks largely to JM.

Of course it's not rocket science.

JM is getting back some of investment. ......and why not?

He has other interests other than football which is in fact low down in that particular list.

If we want to be like Bolton we need another chairman as this one wont play that particular ball game.

It's easy really.

We'll never get another chairman who will agree to JM's valuation

Rev Algenon Stickleback H Most on the outside also don't appreciate how many teams are living way beyond their means. They also don't tend realise we've actually spent about £11 million since promotion.

Seol £1.5 million
Halford £2.5 million
Cisse £0.5 million
Rosenior (swap for Seol, so another £1.5 million?)
Fae £2.5 million
Bikey £1 million
Bennet £0.5 million
Matejovsky £1.5 million
Duberry £800,000
Kebe £400,000

Surely it's only worth talking about net spending - in which case you can forget Halford and Rosenior.
So that's around £9M in 2 years.

And let's not go into effective spending.

1.5 + 0.5 + 2.5 +1 + 0.5 + 1.5 +0.8 + 0.4 = ?

Forest Gump Personally I agree that football carries financial risk. The clubs that are willing to take a gamble and invest in their squads deserve to get success and on this basis Reading FC do not deserve it. So if we get relegated - and this seems a pretty strong possibility - it will be no more than the Club deserves.

I tend towards the opposite view on this.

Coppell / RFC has shown a huge amount of faith in the first team squad, and in these days of rotation policies and desperation buys it is somewhat refreshing to see. Personally I think this is more deserving of success.

Even if those players your showing faith in just aren't up to the job (currently at least).

Form comes and goes, players can lose confidence or that half of yard incredible quickly. Sticking by them when they're not up to it doesn't deserve success.

Platypuss 1.5 + 0.5 + 2.5 +1 + 0.5 + 1.5 +0.8 + 0.4 = ?

Using these figures (and not counting any fee for Rosenior as it was straight swap
Seol £1.5 million
Halford £2.5 million
Cisse £0.5 million
Rosenior (swap for Seol, so another £1.5 million?)
Fae £2.5 million
Bikey £1 million
Bennet £0.5 million
Matejovsky £1.5 million
Duberry £800,000
Kebe £400,000

Then

- 2.5 we recieved for Halfords.

My point is that the concept of loyalty and faith is more deserving of success.

Erm, yes?

Where's the £7.7M? Seeing as maths must be your strong point as it apparently isn't mine...

Real football isn't like CM.

But we've been saying since promotion our defence needs to be tightend, Sonko & Inga played at the top of the games in our first season in the top flight, but could you really ever say they are among the top CB in the country. Since the summer we all thought we were weak on the right hand side, Murty maybe not quite up to the premiership & Little injured.

I just find it unbelievable that two transfer windows have passed and we have not seemingly strengthened in those areas (ok kebe, out til March, but couldn't get into a Lens team 16th in the French league).

Is it just me but the club are already preparing for the championship, cause the not showing any ambition. If we go down, on the plus side should get some nice cash for (Shorey 4m, Hunt 5m, Doyle 5m, Kitson 4m, Lita 4m) around 22m, and then re-sign Cox £500k.

Lost the faith at the moment, but still hoping things are gonna get better

Come on you Royals

This is such a pointless and dismissive statement.

Football teams are built by managers bringing in players to play in their teams. What a lot of people are saying is that we need to bring in players to supplement the ones we have because our team is not performing to the level required to make staying in the Premiership more than likely.

Can you not see that we've needed to add players to this squad?

The only possible hope we have of staying up is if Coppell for once in his life has the guts to hold his hands up and admit defeat. If he is not gone before the Everton match we are fooked.

HB, I think what Ozy is saying is that this is the real world not a fantasy one.

It is not just a case of identifying a player and going out and getting him?

Anyway, Coppell believes he has the players capable of getting us out of this situation already here at the club so why would he want to go out and sign more players? There's no logic to that.

Many disagree with him but at this stage I'd go with his judgment over that of people who've never played or managed at any kind of level, (except on CM of course).

We shall see...

Yet Coppell is repeating many of the mistakes that he previously admitted to having made earlier in his career.

And talking about his big gamble. Who in their right mind gambles on teams like the Ivory Coast and Cameroon getting knocked out of the ACON early and gives that as yet another justification for not strengthening the squad during the transfer window?!!

In the past SC has often said that he recognises that when the team us doing well he is great and when they aren't he is crap. Well I'm afraid he is developing a bit of a smell.
