We miss our Ronaldo

by Gordons Cumming » 25 Feb 2008 11:37

Glen Little.

I know he isn't a goalscorer but is our talisman and creative genius.
( Imagine where United would be without Ronaldo.)
We miss the service he gave us down the wings and the pleasure of those mazy dribbles.
Convey and Little swinging crosses in...............those were the days.

Come back Glen.................QUICK!!!!!

Glen Little isn't going to stop our DUMP defense letting goals in.

Have we missed little? absolutely yes.

is he the messiah that as soon as he returns everything will be ok? Not a chance.

He might get a few crosses in that could make all the difference.

What's the point in scoring goals if all teams need to do is run through the centre of the park unchallenged when they choose to. Yes, we miss Little, but we miss half a defence and central midfield just as much.

I don't think the defence is much worse than last season, it is mainly down to the midfield. We can't retain the ball or win it back when we do lose it meaning that we are often caught out on quick counter attacks leaving the fence very exposed. Last season this didn't happen very often - we retained the ball better and won it back far more often.

No.

Basically what I was trying to say, without actually saying it, is that Glen Little would help our ball retention, as well as getting quality balls into the penalty area.

Glen wouldn't make that much difference to ball retention, but would give a better attacking option and give the rest of the team the hope of goals.

He gave the ball away far less than John Oster.

The fact we miss him so much is compounded by Coppell not highlighting a right winger in his transfer policy in the summer. As for Jimmey Kebe, he'll be amusing, but he's not the answer either and was purely a panic buy.

Yes he would, because he doesn't give the ball away very often. If he gets the ball on the wing he generally either ended up putting a cross in to the box, won a free kick, won a throw in or won a corner. He rarely gave the ball away.

I agree, but he's just one player, he can't affect the other 10 that much.Only when he's on the ball.............

I'm a big fan of Glen Little, but pinning our hopes on his return spurring us forward is grasping at straws. It wasn't that long ago that people were awaiting the return of Sonko as he would be the saviour of the defence! We are several players short of a good team and we all know it. Sadly with the passing of every one of our cup finals, straws are all we have left! Its difficult not to be doom and gloom and I really hate it but we are woeful.

For an RTG (I think that phrase is just about redundant now) you are certainly being harsh on one of our best players on sunday!

I think it's fair to say we even miss Soel. His crossing in particular. Lazy f**ker but when on his game, real quality.

Sidwell and Little missing from that team leaves on huge hole.

And we've had how long to sign a replacement of similar quality?

The Little situation sums up why we are in trouble perfectly.

Remember all the people saying we didn't need a winger cause Fae plays there for Senegal or Coppell's claims Rosenior was comfortable there?

There are few (if any) of similar quality out there. Little is one of the last "old fashioned wingers" who can beat a man by skill alone. If he'd had pace as well he certainly wouldn't have ended up at Reading.

This is one of the problems with our other right sided players/fill ins, they are all judged by Little's standards.

Despite his qualities, Little is 32/33 and this injury is the make or break of his career. He'll be a much welcome addition back but I really hope Coppell learns from his mistakes of rushing Convey & Sonko back too soon.
