I know we've got the luxury of 4 fit strikers, something which we've rarely had in the last 2 years, but this has come as a massive shock for the reasons already mentioned in this thread.

Personally I feel it would be of more benefit to Long to go out on loan. He may be a good impact player (better than Lita imo) but he's been ineffective whenever he's started a game this season, and worringly seems to have gone backwards this season.

Shocking decision,
Lita looks like the only one of our strikers to score atm.
We have 3 out of form strikers now and we are making our small squad smaller.

I think Coppell had no option, Lita has caused problems all year and apparently his actions Friday (raring up, refusing to travel to Boro and then storming away from training) was one hissy fit too many. However I think we've seen this coming for a while, so why Coppell sold Cox or signed another striker in Jan is baffling ?

As many have stated already, Coppell has been quoted on the OS stating he needs 4 strikers and at this crucial time we now have 3, none of which have scored for ages.

If we go down, this is yet another huge misjudgement by Sir Steve this season.

BR2
North Stand, B18 I appreciate what SC has done for this club but some of his decisioins really piss me off. This loan move is just another very strange moment in SCs reign as the manager of this club. How you can loan out an ex -England U21 international who was by far England's best player at the European Championships last summer to a championship side really beats me. SC seems to have a real problem with Lita and it is affecting his judgement as a manager. It's not as though no other Premiership footballers have ever made a sex tape for oxf*rd's sake! Are Micah Richards, Rio ferdinand, Frank Lampard and Keiron Dyer all being discriminated against because of mistakes in their past. Lita should definately be in the first team as none of our other options have any idea where the goal is! If SC cannot get over his extreme hatdre of Lita he should just oxf*rd off and give up football management!

On another note this is my first post on this forum so I am waiting for the 'oxf*rd off Newbie!' shit that is coming my way!

Newbie,
I would dispute that bit about Lita being England's best player in the U21 tournament.
IIRC he was often a sub in the qualifying stages and don't forget one of the most horrendous misses of all time.
A good Championship player (like Nugent) who is a bit short of Premiership ability.

Funny (IIRC) how the FA singled him out for a letter congratulating him on his performance in the U21 tournament then! Seem to remember Pearce was full of praise too,

As for good Championship player a bit short of Premiership ability, where does that put Long?!!

From what I remember, the letter of congratulation from the FA was all about keeping his temper and dignity in the face of racist abuse, and nothing to do with on-field play.

It still makes me chuckle to this day.

Still, let's not forget, he's a top top striker as he's shown every time he's played in the Premier League since the Euro Tournament, and he should definitely be starting every week.

I must admit this is a shocking piece of business. Not even considering the fact that were helping out a t#sspot (pardew of course) but were letting a striker(who is scoring in the ressys alot) go out on loan at a vital part of the season leaving us with only 3 strikers left who are scoring diddly squat

Oh the irony, Lita fires Charlton into the Premiership…… and Reading go down.
What would Coppell say if that happened?

Leroy Lita was our top scorer and in the team of the tournament. HTH.

However that miss was comical wasn't it? and he hasn't scored a single goal since then in the League in which his employers compete. But he should still be the first name on the team sheet because he's the only one who knows where the goal is.

The chap has found his level, U21 Internationals, Championship football and Reserve team games against a bunch of spotty youths. (And past-it Ukranians of course!)

Whilst Saint Kevin is banging them in, oh and 'supersub' Shane 'wonderkid', 7 goals in 53 appearances.

It was a bad miss, not as bad as Les Ferdinand's miss for Reading against Leicester, now he must have been shit throughout his career for missing one like that.

should Lita be the first name on the sheet? no not really, but he deserves a chance at least in the first team of 4 or 5 games back to back up front. Instead of any of the failing Reading forwards. Be that Saint Kevin, wonderkid Shane or 1 more pint Kitson.

Well this just about sums up Reading at the moment in one breath we are saying that we dont need strikers as we have got four good ones........now we give one away ??????????? but i suppose when you look at it in the wider picture Leroy plus 11 others out on loan think of all the money we are saving on wages, and we all know how we dont like to spend any money !! Just what the hell is going on, this Leroy situation isnt new we should have sorted it in the window just another example of pretty bad management, and the question has to be asked do we do things for the best position possible in the Premiership or our bank balance, we really the scrooges of the league. !

Lita interview from Charlton official site, with some rather interesting comments :

New Charlton striker Leroy Lita is aiming to make up for lost time after sealing a loan switch from Reading on Wednesday morning.

The 23-year-old watched from the stands the previous evening as his new club shared a 1-1 draw against the team with which he started his professional career, Bristol City.

And he is champing at the bit to swap his television for the Valley promotion vision against Preston North End this weekend as he starts an initial one-month loan spell, which could conceivably be extended until the end of the season.

"I'm really looking forward to what's a little fresh start for me, and I just want to start enjoying my football again," said Leroy, who has been restricted to just 11 Premier League outings for the struggling Royals this term.

"I was at the game on Tuesday night and the team is very good with some good attacking players.

"I know a few of the Charlton boys, too, like Jon Fortune, Lloyd Sam, Jerome Thomas and Chris Dickson, and I'm looking forward to going into training on Thursday."

He added: "It's been so frustrating for me this season, because I don't feel I've really had an opportunity.

"I've not really been involved in the last few weeks and have been sitting at home watching Paul Merson and Matt Le Tissier on Gillette Soccer Saturday.

"I don't like sitting at home. I'm a footballer, and I want to play week-in, week-out."

Born in Kinshasa in the Democratic Republic of Congo, former Chelsea youngster Lita made his name at Bristol City and scored on his debut for England U21s before joining Reading for £1m in summer 2005.

He found the net 14 times last season as the Royals enjoyed a hugely successful first season in the top flight, but times have been far tougher at the Madejski Stadium this term.

The quest for Premier League football in 2008/09 connects Lita's parent club and his new loan outfit - and with 10 games remaining in the Championship, the pacy striker wants to fire the Addicks higher in the table.

He said: "Obviously, I've come from one team wanting one thing to another, but at the moment there is only one option for me, at Charlton.

"Charlton are a big club and were obviously in the Premier League for many years. The fans are great and they really get behind the team.

"Everyone was disappointed we didn't get the win on Tuesday, but in the end it was a game of two halves.

"I want to play football at Charlton and I have to get straight down to business as we are obviously coming to the end of the season and everyone is looking for points."

Lita has one goal to his credit this season, at Swansea City in the Carling Cup, a fixture in which new - and old - teammate Sam Sodje was sent off.

And he is keen to return to the scoring charts sooner rather than later.

"I'll be looking to score as many goals as I can for the team and help us get the points," said Lita, who scored three times against Preston in Reading's promotion campaign of 2005/06.

"It's been unbelievably frustrating for me this season, but as a footballer you make sure you are ready to deal with such opportunities.

"It will be good to be involved again and playing football, and this is a great opportunity for me to go out and start enjoying myself again."

Oh it was far worse than Ferdinand's miss. (Not that I saw that one...)

But anyway the point is that he is not as good as some people like to believe - never has been, never will be.

I wanted him to play against Man City, and thought he would, but he has obviously been shipped out for a reason. It just astonishes me how some muppets on here will seize on anything that happens and assume they know every nuance of every decision thus qualifying them to demand the manager's head for rank incompetence etc. when in fact they know fcuk all about it.

I also know fcuk all about it but clubs don't make this sort of move for no reason.
