T.R.O.L.I. You're missing the point slightly IMO - if you go to the bar with a £10 note and find it isn't enough, then you can get some more money out of your wallet. If you go to the bar and only find out after you;ve ordered that you've only got £10 on your card for a round of £12 then you're screwed (unless one of your mates is nearby with a card with some money on it).

No, I don't think he missed your point at all - but you have!

The scenario you post is equivalent to queuing up for £12 of purchase with only £10 in your wallet. You can't just wave a wand and find an extra £10 in there. You'd need a mate with some money in his wallet.

If you know you are going to buy £12 of stuff you need to check that you've got £12 (or more ) on the card.

Ergo, getting to front of the queue and finding that you only have £10 on the card is NO dfferent to finding you have only £10 in your wallet. In both cases you have made a mistake and will be unable to pay for your purchases.

I have sought a translation of the above garbage into English. Having done so, I think the easiest response is - it would potentially be theft if they took your money without allowing you to use it - it remains your money until you use it to buy things at the stadium.

What happens if your mate has £2 on his card?

Precisely, it is just the same as if he had £2 in his pocket in the original scenario?!! I think I covered that by implication.

No it's not - the scenario I posted (perhaps slightly vaguely) was that if you have a tenner in your hand, get to the front of the queue and then realise you need to get some more money out of your wallet then you're fine. If, however, you have a tenner on your card, get to the front of the queue and then realise you need some more money on your card, you could have a shed load of cash in your wallet but it won't do you any good.

How easy is it to tell how much you have on a card? You could conceivably get to the front of the queue not knowing precisely how much you have on the card.

In the above scenario you may think you have "about £12" on it, but in reality have £11.40. Is it the case, as with Nectar cards and the like, that you have to wait for the cashier to scan the card before you know how much you have on it?

There are 4 ways you can check your balance on the card before you order;-
1) On line before you leave home.
2) At top up points on the wall of the concourse.
3) Asking one of the Quick Pay Team members who will be walking around with hand held card readers.
4) Ask the Kiosk to check it on their till before you buy.

The WHOLE reason RFC are doing this is because they get the interest from your money as it sit in there account!

Absolutely, the money they'll make on a tenner sitting in there for a day will fund an entire team of petit danseuse

In all reality cash is going to vanish fairly soon, and cards with money are going to be the way ahead, government back the move, as it means all tranactions can be monitored.

Yes it is very different, it's easy to see how much cash you have, not so easy to see how much credit you have. It's also easy to get more cash from a mate, any probably not so easy if at all possible to use two cards for one purchase. So this "improved" service actually involves the punter making a balance check prior to buy anything, in another machine and possibly in another queue.

Nothing's been said about the mobile beer sellers, will they charge beers via the membercard or still cash?

Thats because there are none in GU8 to GU12 concourse where kiosks are adequate to serve the 3000 people seated in that area.

If that's all you think will be sitting in their accounts then you clearly don't understand how the system works or how people tend to use it. For starters, unlike the system used at my place of work, customers are unable to load coins onto their account. Therefore the minimum anyone can load is £5. How often do you come across fivers nowadays? You certainly don't get them out of cash dispensers. Therefore the majority of notes loaded through the note loaders are going to be at least tenners. How many people are going to use all of the money they have loaded at one game? Once again very few I suspect. When will they return to spend the balance? Not the next day as is usually the case with work canteens etc. but in normal circumstances a couple of weeks later.

Sure, the club aren't going to make an absolute fortune from the interest but I bet you or I would happily welcome the amount they are going to get!

Just out of interest, I will try to find out how much money is sitting on the cards at work at any one time - and that's just for a couple of hundred cardholders.

Let's be honest - the real advantages to the catering company (not the club) are the fact that they don't have the costs of handling, sorting and banking large amounts of small denomination cash - together with the opportunities for theft that this gives.

All other considerations are insignificant when considered against this.

This type of system works at golf clubs as the average membership is 650-800 people all paying into maybe 3 outlets. Not possibly 14k paying into ?100 plus outlets. On smaller outlets its easy to track and any error is remidied straight away imagine at Mad Stad trying to change Guinness for Fosters and trying to get money back.We are in the upper west trial area and received the letters on Tuesday giving us 4 days max to get ready. No way am I trusting this system with the staff we have so we are all meeting before game in pub nearby so RFC looses our income.

It also works in a number of 60-70000 plus stadiums in Germany and around the world.

You need 4 days to get ready, were you planning to wear something special, do you have a very slow internet connection? What the oxf*rd do you need to get ready for?

Christ I'm sure people moan for the sake of moaning.
