Ark Royal Met some Luton fans in the car park afterward and they all congratulated us

I met the opposite end of Luton's social spectrum - one very angry Luton fan walking against the flow of the Reading fans shouting "Come on then! I'll take on any one of yer!" I'm not sure what kind of reaction he was expecting, but someone took him up on the offer and laid him out with one punch.

Classic!!! Would loved to witnessed that!

Met up with Tim Breaker a few years ago when he was at the end of his career, (with the Sham I think?). We were in the changing room of Ongar Swimming pool one sunday morning (taking our repsecive children swimming before you ask!). My eldest, (about 8 at the time), recognised him, and I had a chat with him about the SC. He wasn't that complimenatry about us, claiming Luton were just rubbish although we deserved to win.

Still got the video - The Royals Day at Wembley not the changing room scene! Must copy to DVD.

I've just watched the TVS special on Reading World. So much has changed in 20 years they could not have interviewed a better bunch of inbreds in Reading town centre if they tried! I enjoyed seeing the goals from the rounds before at EP Has made me very nostalgic a great day. I'm off to make meself Simod Sling.

When Hicks went up...
Silver Fox What a magnificent day that was

1 time, 1 time, at Wembley Stadium, we won it 1 time

Something along these lines has to be sung on Saturday. We need a decent, if ironic, answer to the cries of "you've never won f**k all" that always eminate from the south stand.

We'd beaten Bradford City
We'd beaten the Coventry
Forest and Oxford had already gone home

We won it one time
We won it one time
At Wembley
We won it one time

In response to the away fans signing "you've never won fcuk all", I'd love to here a reply of:

"We won it three times,
We won it three times,
The Berks and Bucks Cup,
We won it three times!".

To be fair I think Luton were much more interested in the upcoming Final against Arsenal and the supporters were probably saving up for that day, hence our outnumbering them. Still a great day though and a storming run to the final beating a host of top division teams. Was it four? I can't remember.

and I thought it was when Sargeant Pepper taught the band to play!

I was there, I was drunk and I know which legendary RFC player (from this century) clapped for and cheered all five goals because he was one goal more drunk than me!

If my memory serves me correctly, on the way to the final we beat those teams in order:

QPR, Oxford, Bradford City (?), Nottingham Forest and then Coventry City.

Gonna check this out though, will get back to you....

Wikipedia doesn't list the games played up to the final at all, soccerbase doesn't even recognise the Simod Cup. So I resorted to google and found this:

Some poster posted the run, but I'm not 100% certain until Strap posts the facts! ;)

I remember watching us beat QPR from one of the executive boxes guests of staunch Rangers fans.

I said " We're on our way to Wembley"

Everyone laughed.

You sure it is Strap and not some type of fake Strap posing under an assumed name or identity? I forget the word used to describe such a person...

Nope, since when did Statto mean someone posing under a false identity?

Hang on, I seem to remember you writing this on Royal Mail years ago, I remember you saying that your son said it was Tim Breaker and you told him not to be silly. Then you turned around and saw him. Or something like that.

Oddly I remember finding myself thinking "wouldn't it be great if..." coming out of the QPR game, before realising how stupid a thought it was.

Bizarre to think all the clubs we beat were considerably better than us back then.

Now...QPR, championship
Oxford, blue square premier
Forest, League 1
Bradford, League 2
Coventry, championship
Luton, League 1, heading for league 2.

I can't help thinking that these topics are a bit self congratutory- we were there ( so what) lets be inclusive... our drummer boy wants in to bang his drum and the man and his dog is down his neck. I like Reading fans!

Ark Royal Brilliant, brilliant day. When Harford scored I was thinking to myself 'please, please don't let us get hammered today.' Met some Luton fans in the car park afterward and they all congratulated us and we wished them luck against the Gooners.

We too met some Luton fans in the car park afterwards who asked us 'Can we have our ball back please?' and praised Reading for the way we had completely outplayed them.

It really didn't look as though it was going to be like that when the favourites scored first but then Gilksie started to run!

'When Hicks, went up
To lift The Simod Cup
We were there.........'

If I remember correctly, despite living in London, I drove back down to Reading to join in the celebrations and was surprised to see that some people had already managed to make up some big banners of congratulations and had hung them off a couple of bridges over the M4.
