Worst three matches watched

Not a Reading game, but I was at Wycombe for an FA Cup replay (I think) against Man City, 0-0. I was in the City end (a mate was a fan). I can't recall any Reading game I've been to being more boring than that dross. It wasn't until about half way through the second half before City had a shot, greeted with a huge cheer by the away support & followed up with "Ee Eye adio we've had a shot" chant. It went to a third replay - back when they still had these. I would still like the time back I spent watching that crap.

but there's the myth. Were we really chased? There were about 50 Aldershot trouble-makers there supporting Wealdstone, trying it on with us. They even started off in our end, but got escorted out.

Trudging back to the coaches someone said "they're coming" and we all ran. I never saw if anyone really was after us.

I remember it very well - we had knocked Aldershit out in the previous round - there was this blond haired girly fat bloke from Aldershit and his mates who wandered into the middle of our fans in the ground - which resulted in a crush against the wire fence which nearly gave way - that was more scary than any threat of violence.

I seem to remember many 'They're coming' shouts after various games at the time, which created a blind panic but never resulted in anything

I think the worst ever game I've attended in all of my years of supporting Reading has to be the Millwall thrashing. We travelled to the New Den and I think Alan Pardew had just been installed as the caretaker manager. Michael Gilkes was playing for Millwall and they thrashed us 5-0. Awful, awful game. To make things worse, my parents' house got burgled the next day. It wasn't a great week.

You forgot to mention it was also freezing cold!
I have my own particular memory of this game because that morning I received an e-mail from my then wife who was in Taiwan telling me she wanted a divorce! Naturally none to pleased about this I thought a solid Reading performance at the Den might cheer me up....

Rotherham 1 Reading 0 about four years ago, which basically meant that we had thrown away a possible lifeline for the play offs, against a side who recorded only their second or third win of the season (in March)

We played like a team who just couldn't be bothered, and no recognition was given for the 300 or so of us who travelled up there that night

That Bury game made for a great evening - sort of. At least memorable. The rainfall was amazing, but Bury played it perfectly, just lumped it upfield, while we tried to pass neatly through the muddy lakes... It was indeed abandoned with Bury 2-0 up ...which was amusing (in a Schadenfreude kind of way)..And watching those poor Bury fans on the open terrace, having driven all that way, soaked to the skin....and absolutely furious when the game was called off...I even found it in myself to feel sorry for them. When I wasn't chuckling. They were in a lower league to us..and probably couldn't have belived they were two up. Priceless.

But the worst game for me was 1986 (?) - away to Bradford, when they were at the Odsal Stadium in those days I hitched up. It snowed a little. Got dropped on the M25, but not on a slip road, and soon enough the police stopped and made me hike across a muddy field - watching me most of the way. Got lost outside Bradford. Finally arrived as we kicked off. Stood on an open terrace. Watched us get thumped 3-0. No fight at all. Then hitched home again. My own fault I know...but there you go.

And then there was some evening friendly at Elm Park. Feb1987 ? Against Brondby ? Flippin cold. Pretty sure a young peter schmeichel was in goal for them. Did I say it was cold? Jeez, it was freezing. Might have suited the Danes I suppose. I have never, ever left a game early, before or since. But that one, I really had to...just to get my circulation going. There weren't many there...We lost. Badly. Not a night to remeber. My toes finally thawed out the following Thursday.

Boxing Day 1994. 0-0 draw against Luton. Why did I bother?

I had a monumental hangover. I spent the entire game thinking I was going to be sick on myself.

In terms of performance, getting done 2-0 at Chesterfield in 98 was a spectacular low point.

my God I was at that one too. 1979? I was a student down the road in Leicester.

We scored first. Ollie Kearns I think. Steve Death was at fault for none of them.

That Chesterfield game - we were one up after two minutes, playing with a howling wind, then Sanch scored a screamer ...... pity it was the wrong end. We were 2-1 down at halftime, with the inevitable second half blitz.

Only one shot in the entire game, but Mick Quinn was offside when he hit it, and a truly unbelievable section of the game when both teams played head tennis to ole's from the crowd.

Reading 1 - 5 Bury, late 60s or early 70s, sorry can't be more precise. George Jones scored 4 goals against us. Bury were poor and Jones only ever scored against us but they were something of a bogey team to us.
The only game I have left well before the end, which actually wasn't easy to do as the gates were closed to prevent people sneaking in.

the worst game/performance I can remember is losing 2-0 at blackpool end of the 99 season, nothing to play for and it was abysmal, apart from the football it was a cracking weekend, we were there for the weekend (stag do) and all turned up dressed in old ladies dresses, I was off work sick, and got interviewed by radio berks at half time, not a clever move

That was my first ever game to young to rate it as one of my worst as I don't remember much about it except my dad saying he'd never take me again as I was a bad omen

Without doubt - Reading 2 Northampton Town 4 - relegation year 1976/77 - Northampton were bottom and crap - the game was crap (Despite the misleading scoreline) - we were undeservedly winning 2-1 after a veery fortunate penalty converted by John Murray - and a win may have created a chance of survival. A certain Derek Christie was brought on as sub for the cobblers and made Stewart Henderson look ridiculous and they scored three in the last 20 minutes - and it could have been five or six. This was a month or two after selling the best number 9 I've ever seen - I remember John Turner in goel for us having a mare and him having a stand up row with one or two of our fans behind the goal next to me at the time. All the joy of the previous season had evaporated into abject misery. We didn't even have a manager - the bus journey home was awful and the walk home from the bus stop at the top of Donkin Hill was so depressing I contemplated suicide. (I was 13 at the time)

Excellent post particularly the utter despair you felt as a 13 year old.
Being a Reading fan is surely more interesting than supporting "Win every week United" because we all(most of us) appreciate the good times and remember how seriously grim things have been in the past.
