Re: Where did you think we would finish this year

Royalee I said 7th, but didn't expect Coppell to throw away points like he has done.

I admire your optimism and can only think that you know absolutely nothing about football to even contemplate us finishing that high.

We finished 8th last season, which I predicted - I expect you probably had us relegated last year so I doubt you know that much about football yourself.

I thought we would finish around about the 14th place mark last season and we surpassed my expectations.

Just because you predicted where we finished correct in one season doesnt make you an automatic authoritarian on football which was bourne out by your ludicrous prediction for this season's finish.

I would like to know on what you based your prediction for this season's finish as you must have had us above the likes of Blackburn, Pompey, Man City, Villa to name but 13.

You start to see where some fans' disappointment stems from when you see how optimistic they were before the start of the season. Me, I still remain optimistic on a match by match basis, but pessimistic on a season by season one. It'll take decades before I get the expectation of a swift return to Swindon (pardon my language) levels out of my system. By which time, we'll probably be back there anyway (oops, there I go again).

Thanks for the Dodding, I really should trawl back through 8 months of threads before I make my own.

I don't Dodd. Just thought it would be interesting to view in the context of actual predictions. I only remembered the thread because I started it!

Just discovered I didn't contribute or vote on this when it was originally done. I think I was in the 13th -14th Camp, although I might have gone as high as 11th -12th.

We've been worse than I was expecting by quite some way, but still seem to be on for just about finishing in the right area. Shows how bad the league has been this year on the whole IMO.

Also shows that the sort of levels of performance we expect after seeing the last 5 or 6 years of us would generally put us in the fight for Europe, which year on year just isn't conceivably within our grasp IMO.

It seems even midtable prem teams spend large amounts of the season being pretty shit when you look at this season.

You're American, you can't possibly be expected to know what you're talking about just yet.

LOL at many of the comments from Spacey earlier in this thread!

Perhaps he'll now realise that realist isn't spelt 'pessimist'!

Woodcote Royal As we managed 8th last season with a young squad that is only getting better, I'll leave the doom and gloom to those who stilll want to w@nk over the average Sidwell :? .................................... I think we'll scrape the points required for that European tour!

7th-8th

According to many on HNA the two playing for us don't know what they're doing either.

There must be someone in the Reading squad who can fulfil the basic tasks of a defensive midfielder - break play up, tackle, dominate (or at least not be dominated?) Our midfield has its qualities but never shows them because it never has control of the game, Harper and Matejovsky does not work. Bikey in the midfield might give us some chance of getting control of it, maybe even giving the defence some protection and allowing Matejovsky to prove his passing ability.

One problem. Coppell will never drop James Harper.

and bikey is not a midfielder, so its either Cisse or Gunnarsson

Schards#2 17th - 18th

We start with a weaker squad than last year and one that is carrying several long term injuries. In addition, several key members of the squad are past their peak and we are no longer a surprise package to the opposition.

Many other sides in th bottom half have strengthened significantly and, if we do get in trouble, we won't try and spend our way out of it.
