Who Will Go Down - Last 4 matches.

by Dirk Gently » 15 Apr 2008 11:41

As I started the previous thread, I'll start this one, in the light of recently changed circumstances and requests for a new poll.

With 4 matches left to play, who will accompany Derby through the relegation trapdoor?

For the record, the table looks like this :

13 Middlesbrough 34 -17 36
14 Sunderland 34 -19 36
15 Wigan 34 -17 35
16 Reading 34 -26 32
17 Birmingham 34 -13 31
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
18 Bolton 34 6 -21 29
19 Fulham 34 -24 27
20 R Derby 34 -58 11

Remaining Fixtures are :
Middlesbrough : H v Bolton, A v Sunderland, H v Portsmouth, H v Man City
Sunderland : A v Newcastle, H v Middlesbrough, A v Bolton, H v Arsenal
Wigan : H v Tottenham, H v Reading, A v Aston Villa, H v Man Utd
Reading : A v Arsenal, A v Wigan, H v Tottenham, A v Derby
Birmingham : A v Aston Villa, H v Liverpool, A v Fulham, H v Blackburn
Bolton : A v Middlesbrough, A v Tottenham, H v Sunderland, A v Chelsea
Fulham : H v Liverpool, A v Man City, H v Birmingham, A v Portsmouth

It's 2 from 4 to join Derby, I reckon Bolton and Fulham. We will stay up with 33 points. I hope.

As blatantly obvious as this will sound, I think a lot will become clearer after Saturday, Fulham's game with Liverpool and Bolton's at Boro are both critical to their chances.

If I see a performance at Arsenal, regardless of result, then we have a chance, if its anything like the last 2 games then its us and Fulham.

I think Fulham have too much to do to stay up, so for me it is one from three.

Bolton are in the driving seat for the last position at the moment, however if they get anything at boro i would then be seriously worried about our status as we have a history of bottling it when we need to win and bolton unfortunatly have a history of nicking results when they need them and with sunderland at home i think they will pick up 3 points there.

I think Fulham are doomed - despite being handed a revival chance on a plate!

I also think we'll do at least a point better than Birmingham will over the next 4 games, which means that whatever Bolton do becomes irrelevant.

Interestingly everyone seems to think Wigan are safe - so if their season is over they ought to be there for the taking....?

If they beat Spurs this weekend, which is more than likely given their form of late then they will have very little to play for by the time we turn up next Saturday.

Could it get anymore exciting, with games where the bottom 6 are playing each other, making it impossible for everyone to get maximium points, as someone else makes it to safety someone will be pushed deeper into the mire. Sounds like it will be just so much fun.

I think tickets to all away games are a must regardless of the quality of football on show

(Long term) history is completely irrelevant.

I can't see us winning another game. You just have to hope and pray Bolton lose their last four, and Birmingham. Not much to ask, right?

Odd how Birmingham seem to be slipping under everybody's radar - can anybody see them beating Liverpool, Villa or Blackburn? Their other game is of course against Fulham but that's good for everybody else involved (i.e. Bolton and Reading). Fulham look like world beaters though so should have no trouble beating the Blues.

Would rather have Reading's fixtures than theirs, and the extra point in the bag...

Bolton'll beat Sunderland so we need at least a point.

i hope 2 against Tottenham and Derby will be enough, I think 4 would make it certain. 3 is pushing it fine.

No - people think they're safe because they have us at home. :|

In all my panicking, I'd forgotten about Brum. Looking at those results, I can see us at least matching their points haul over the remaining 4 games. Saying that, they've got two at home compared to our 1, though one of those is wasted by playing Liverpool.

I could go on, but I'll be leading myself around in circles and will end up saying nothing.

I'll let you know on May 12th.
