Shorey owes nothing to this football club. He's been an immense pro since the day he arrived and a superb addition to our squad. He's been so consistent over a period of time, and maybe the speculation regarding his future has affected his game this season but he's not in a minority that's for sure. Hopefully he'll play his part in securing our Premier League future for next season, and if he wants to leave good luck to him, good luck to the club in getting as high a transfer fee as possible, I suspect he'll probably be valued in the £5million - £7million bracket. The difficulty will be finding a long term replacement.

I beg to differ - he's been shorey-average, but that still puts him better than most of the rest of our squad. His one weakness this season has been a concentration defeciency brought about by bigger clubs' understandable interest in him and his own subconscious cutting of his tie with the club. When at his best (usually against the better clubs, especially on live TV; please let this Sat be another such occasion) he still oozes class, and there have been matches this season when his stats have been nigh on 100% for passes and tackles completed. Trouble is his momentary lapses tend to cost goals, but that only serves to underline his worth to the team. We are going to struggle big time to replace him.

I reckon that golbourne might add a different dimension to our game than shorey, golbourne is much quicker and more of a Clichy type left back who likes to get forward, whereas Shorey is more of a passer, and is much slower, and can sometimes get caught for pace when a winger is running at him, what do others think?

I've seen him and he's certainly not a long term replacement.

That's what I would do.

I doubt he'll go to a top four club. A Villa, Newcastle, Boro maybe but n ot top four.
Either way I think it's clear he's leaving and after his performances this season that's a good thing. Holding him for the final year of his contract means more of the same, and that isn't good enough.

I have no doubt that these clubs already have far better left backs on their books already - he's done himself no favours recently, he has played like he's not interested and as a result has not shown other clubs what he is capable of, thus reducing his selling price imho.

He was. Only every time the ball came to him, it seemed to have a puncture and he kicked it away to get a new one.

Id be happy with giving Golbourne a season if we had 3 rock solid defenders along side him in the back four. We dont seem to have that at the moment.

I beg to differ. He's owed this club 100% commitment and application this season in return for the handsome wage he's been picking up.

Unfortunately he's not lived up to his previously high standards and that looks like it's probably been due to the interest shown in him by the likes of West Ham. That's not good enough, at least Sidwell maintained his dedication and his form whilst playing out his contract and courting his big money move.

Shorey has to go this summer if there is a hint that he's still distracted by the interest thats been shown in him. Where will he go? I'd guess that West Ham are still in the running, even though MaCartney has probably been the better of the two this season. Villa may show an interest as he fits O'Neils profile for new signings, and maybe Newcastle will sniff around. Bascially it would seem that anyone is going to be able to offer him more money and so I can't blame him for looking elsewhere whilst he can.

Where do we go next? Goldbourn isn't up to it from what I've seen. It would appear that Coppell felt the same with the way he's been shipped out on loan this season and not been given a sniff of the first team after the Bolton debacle. It will be yet another signing that Coppell (or whoever is in charge next season) will have to integrate into the squad after not strengthening enough over the last couple of transfer windows.
