Gus the teenage cow Shorey is average, i'd bite your hands and feets off if you gave me 5 million for him, hasn't played well all season yet is guaranteed his game
And that, along with his @rse-lickers in the East stand, has been his biggest problem.
Having his place almost guaranteed since the day he broke into the first team has seen him him have several periods of giving 80 rather than 100% , all of which went largely unnoticed by his fan club, who were too preoccupied slagging off the likes of Hughes and Oster.
Sadly, Sidwell and Shorey typify an attitude that is too prevalent in English players that is noticeably absent amongst many similarly ambitious foreigners. So many of the latter just seem delighted to be playing in the best league in the world.
On the other hand, Sidwell, who admittedly showed no lack of effort in his final season, still elected to move where he could earn most money rather than to a club that would enhance his career (anyone who still thinks he had the faintest chance of making a mark at the Bridge is sadly deluded)
In Shorey's case, he showed everyone last season what a good player he can be at this level.......................too one footed to be a top international player but a very decent performer in the Premiership despite a distinct lack of pace.
Frankly, most of this season he's looked like he couldn't give a sh*t, and this from a player who, at 27, is presumably looking for the final and big earning move of his career.
If I had been a top manager looking enviously at our left back last season, I'd be having more than a few 2nd thoughts based on his performances in this campaign.
I'll be looking for Shorey to give us the very least he owes us over the next 3 games; 100% effort in our quest to avoid relegation.................... then he can leave (as I think he should) with my blessing.
Wherever he ends up, I hope his new club will have more than one quality left back and his place in the first team is no longer guaranteed.
