winchester_royal To be fair to Fae, i probably would have done the same in his situation.

He had to sit on the bench during the first part of the season and watch Bryn put in shite performances over and over again, he has a decent ACoN for IC, comes back, looks very sharp according to KD and WD, plays well in the limited time he gets as a sub, then gets axed from the squad completely

The way he has been treated by Coppell is typical of the way SSC treats people who are not in his 'untouchables' (eg Lita, and BK during start of season) which is unacceptable for a modern day manager.

There are always going to be players with big ego's in football, and if we stay up, and start spending bigger money on better players, then that is something both the manager, and the fans, will have to get accustomed to.

Sonko, however, has been crap this season, has wasted his chances (which fae did not get), and deserved to be in the reserves.......therefore i have no sympathy for him

Bullshit. Doesn't matter how badly you think you may have been treated, whether you should have had a chance, blah blah blah. You are being paid lavishly to do an easy job, the least you can do is play when your club tells you to. There is no defence for his actions.

Emerse: Copp is so stupid

By CHARLIE WYETT

EMERSE FAE has called Steve Coppell ‘stupid’ after being banned by Reading.

SunSport yesterday revealed how Fae and Ibrahima Sonko had been suspended from the club for refusing to play against Tottenham’s reserves on Monday.
Boss Coppell, whose strugglers have a crucial clash at home to Spurs tomorrow, has told the pair to stay away until the season finishes and fined them both two weeks’ wages.
Yet Fae, 24, said: “It’s not clever to suspend your own players — that’s stupid.
“The sanction is too heavy. Axing two players from your own struggling team is not coherent at all.
“I refused to play for the reserves. They said OK, let’s meet on Thursday and in the meantime I get a letter saying I’m axed. They’re not courageous enough to tell me things man-to-man.”
Senegal defender Sonko and Ivory Coast midfielder Fae did not want to play for the reserves as they had World Cup qualifiers coming up.
Coppell, whose side are just a point clear of safety, rapped: “I want people who are committed to the club, not themselves.
“I don’t care about the long term as it is all about what happens now.”
Royals striker Kevin Doyle will today attend the funeral of his cousin Lorraine in Wexford, Ireland.
It is believed husband Diarmuid Flood murdered her and his two kids before killing himself last week.
Doyle played in Saturday’s 0-0 draw at Wigan and is likely to be a sub tomorrow.
Chief Coppell hailed Doyle and said: “He’s been very strong.”

LOL at the Sun's picture of Emerse Fae!

More info here though http://www.sportinglife.com/football/pr ... remiership

It is understood both players feared their international careers would be in jeopardy should they pick up an injury between now and the end of the season and were unwilling to take a risk they deemed unnecessary by playing for the reserves.

Aha things are becomign more clear. They consider playing for their countries more important than playing for the club (and fans) who pay their wages and train them.

W*NKERS.

Perhaps this is why they've not set the world alight in first team appearances - don't want to get injured for their countries? Perhaps this is why they've not played hard enough in reserve matches or training to push for a first team slot?

If this is their mentality surely we can not pay them at all? It's my money, dammit.

Fae for me is almost unsalvageable but Sonko, whilst no longer Superman, has done enough good in the past to warrant a last chance: if he apologises profusely and distances himself massively from Fae's comments her may be able to salvage some respect.

Where would Sonko be if Coppell had not signed him? What a tosser Sonko is. Not as if he even plays for Senegal, is it?

Cheerio.

Too true. 'Twould be much more clever to suspend Spurs players. Alas, I don't know who is clever enough to suspend players from the opposition.

It was later understood to be a problem with being misquoted. Fae and Sonko were told 'You're not being axed. You're being told.'

To which they responded "Too old! Who are you calling too old?" before storming out of the dressing room?

Sadly miscommunication is what happens when you hire Africans. Fae's behaviour isn't that surprising. he has done the same before, but I believe this time as Sonko, being the heart of gold he is, thought he would help a 'brother' who he thought was being wronged. Fae sounds like a manupilative bastard and should be gone, ASAP. Sack on him gross misconduct, don't have to pay severency and he oxf*rd off to whatever country he wants to emigrate to. I hope Coppell's learned his lesson and never employ Africans again.. or listen to his scouts...

What's happened to change Sonko's mind about the importance of playing in the ACON? I thought a couple of seasons ago he didn't go because he'd rather be playing for Reading? He's not even assured a place in their first team is he? It does seem that he's got involved in Fae and Fae is leading him astray.

They've both now showed where their allegiances lie and it's not with RFC. I'm hugely disappointed in Sonks. I can't see the pair of them still being RFC players next season and I can't see us getting much money for the pair of them either.

I keep reading about "untouchables" and "favourites". Well, first of all, of course managers have favourites - everybody's different, and if you are trying to build a successful team then naturally you will favour those players who are likely to give more to the cause, and in our situation those who are likely to remain positive and keep working hard for the good of the squad (Murts being a prime exemplar of this, grafting away in the reserves and in training). As for untouchables, well it's only Hahnemann and Harper who haven't been dropped at some point this season - the former rightly so, the latter at least able to make a case for regular inclusion with his timely important goals and a lack of consistent (new and established) performers around him.

Have to agree with you. Find it suprising that so many on here take issue with SC being called stupid despite having regularly slagged him off on other threads.

However, given the support that both players have had through injury I am a little shocked that they have behaved this way at this time. Could they not have kept their traps shut till the end of the season?

Right decision to suspend both players for refusing to play for reserves but the timing of this and all the press coverage couldn't come at a worse time. I just hope it doesn;t have a negative effect on some of the other players before tomorrow's crucial game, and hopefully it may act as a mechanism for the team to up their performance.

To be honest this episode is yet another nail in the coffin of what has been a thoroughly depressing season devoid of significant entertainment and lack of goalmouth action. Add this episode to the other appalling signings there have been, coupled with a record number of players out on loan, it really does show up RFC's dreadful appreciation of what is needed in the transfer market and wages in the Premiership.

To my mind this is the worst possible news and is symptomatic of the disease that currently is riddling the club and will probably result in our relegation at the end of this season.

Sonko was one of our most committed players, yet something has happened to completely turn him off and change him in to a 'striking' (sadly in terms of industrial relations rather than goals!) rebel.

This latest incident follows lots of other rumours/reports about dressing room bust ups, players falling out with Coppell, each other etc. etc.

The most annoying thing is that one of Coppell's excuses for not strengthening the squad is that he didn't want to threaten the terrific team spirit by upsetting our existing players who had done so well for us. Yet clearly, at this critical moment of this season (the club's history) that team spirit is shot to pieces. Discontent is rife and Coppell has lost the dressing room. Little wonder we are doing so poorly on the pitch. I'm sure our relegation rivals have taken great heart from this latest story.

Of course, there's nothing like a bit of very broad-sweeping racist stereotyping!

Platypuss Lita comes back, and then this happens almost immediately.

Coincidence? I think not. :|

Or maybe the coincidence is Coppell and his style of 'man management'.

If what Fae says is true, managing by letter, rather than having the guts to hold a face to face meeting, followed up by a confirmation letter, is p*ss poor! If it happened where I work, we would be strongly questioning the abilities of the manager concerned.

The Sun
Emerse: Copp is so stupid

Sorry, but you're the stupid one, Fae. What is stupid about removing a disruptive influence from the club at a crucial time like this? Neither of the two warrants a place in the starting line-up or on the bench so Coppell is 100% right to get them out of the way.

Sonko should be sent out on loan to a Championship club for a couple of months next season to see if he can recover his form; I think Fae is beyond redemption - he has to go before he disaffects anyone else.

On the other hand, if you've refused to do your job and your manager says he doesn't want you anywhere near the company, he's not going to want to have you back into the company where you can still see your colleagues and potentially stir up more trouble, just so he can tell you face to face that he doesn't want you back for two weeks, so he'll send you a letter to your home asking you not to return for two weeks and stopping you two week's pay.

Have to say, two week's pay to them is nothing.

First, the suggestion from Fae is that he wasn't told by his manager that he didn't want him anywhere near the company. Second it is perfectly easy to arrange a meeting on the premises where the individual is directed to come straight to the meeting room at an appointed time. Believe you me, good people managers have no difficulty at all arranging such things!

And do you really believe keeping someone away from the company can stop them communicating with their colleagues if they wish to?
