Nicky Shorey

by Shaka's Giant Hands » 02 May 2008 15:00

Tomorrow may well be the last time Shorey plays at the Mad Stad in a Reading shirt, I hope that I'm wrong but it is more than a possibility.

I would hope that he is given a good send off from the home support who would chose rather to thank him for the great performances of the past rather than the poor ones of this season.

Shorey showed us how the left back position should be played over the years and is probably the best left back this club has had and will have for a long time.

Nicky...wherever you end up...I salute you!

Any salute or response any member of the team gets tomorrow will depend on the result and nothing else.

Win and they'll get a good response, lose and the stadium will be half empty by the time the final whistle goes.

If we lose there will be more than one player on the pitch whom we won't see playing at the Madjeski again - at least not in a Reading shirt.

I'm normally a very RTG'd fan but honestly Shorey's legacy has been sullied by this season and his apparent attitude on the pitch. I'll probably stay until the final whistle and hopefully cheer as I head to the pub but I won't be putting in any extra effort for him, he hasn't after all.

If we lose tomorrow I don't think that we will see any premiership players at the Mad Stad again; well at least during next season anyway

Good player that deserves respect.

If he wants to go then fair enough, I change jobs when ever I want to, so it only seems fair that he can change teams

But he's got a contract with us, he cannot just go when he likes. He has to go with our blessings.

If he strolls around the pitch at the final whistle, clapping his hands above his head, then he's definitely going.

Will anyone still be there to see him do that?

Sadly, once the mind has left, contracts and blessings mean precisely sod all!

As opposed to the Chairman who does the same at the start of the game to signify he is definitely staying!

Kind of like he's done most of the season, although that's been during the game and he's not been clapping

TBH on this seasons form, why is anyone bothered if he stays or goes.

Been a great player in his day and first England cap for a Reading player in modern times but things change and players move on.

I rememeber only last year when everyone was going on about missing Sidwell this year

Agree totally, would have been gutted to see him go before the start of this season, but by the end of August it was quite obvious that his thoughts were elsewhere.

A shadow of the player that he was last season, and his attitude doesn't compare with Sidwell's in his last season with us.

Wouldn't mind a straight swap for McCartney (plus West Ham can have a poster or two from this board)

Well I'll miss him. The first time I saw him play I thought he was the best player on the pitch and I've probably not seen him at his best.

I'd rather he didn't go.

I fully agree with you there
Since we turned down offers for nicky from west ham he seems to have lost motivation
From what we have all seen from him this season it seems surprising he managed to get in the england squad
If he leaves we will miss him for sure. But i think we will be able to replace him
