And i'm sure most of you know i really really hate Pompey, but if they beat / draw to Fulham, then i don't mind them winning the FA Cup. If they lose then

jamie left when he was our number one, last game of the season against watford was his last match and we could have got in the play offs and marcus was on the bench. was a great keeper. i remember he played in that memorable 2-0 win over pardrews hammers!

Pompey probably wont play a strong team against fulham cos of the FA cup but we are playing derby and i challenge anyone to name a "strong" derby side
Ashdown is pretty decent from what i have seen of him and hopefully will do us a favour and keep a clean sheet if he plays

For heaven's sake!!!! Redknapp said no such thing. He worded it very carefully. He said he wouldn't field a very very very weak team.

You could have stayed Jamie, and who knows what would have happened? Almost certainly would have started as number 1 the next season. Personally felt this lad could have been an England keeper, he's got everything, problem now is he's slipping off the radar having been sat on the bench for 3 years or so. Ashdown > Federici, would love to see him come back here 1 day.

So through and through he walked out to be Pompey's number 2?

I don't doubt that he has a strong bond towards RFC, having been a fan and also coming through the youth ranks, I too would seriously love to see him back here simply because he's a very good goalkeeper, but don't get fooled that any players are 'through and through' at a club.

Agreed, was a good keeper though, and had he been told the shirt was his at the start of the season he would have stayed IMHO, but it was decided that the summer would see who started, he did well when Marcus was out and should have been told the place was his, so long as fit. All history now though, we may not even be where we are had he been in goal, it must be said that MH had one hell of a season in the record breaking team.

From a Reading perspective it would be better if Pompey played a 2nd string or 'fringe' side full of players wanting to prove a point & force themselves into the reckoning for the Cup Final. Now whether Pompey possess sufficient strength in depth for such a team to beat an in form Fulham, I don't know. However - if 'Arry plays a full strength side they're going to play at 70% - they're going to be afraid of getting sent off & missing the final, afraid of going in hard & getting injured & missing the final. This is against a Fulham side who will be 150% committed & going into every challenge as if their career & season hangs on it ... because that's the case!! A full strength Pompey are not going to win a battle with Fulham on Sunday ... a side of players wanting to prove themselves may have more joy.

I guess you were joking about the big club bit. My mate who is a Pompey fan would point out that the only thing southampton do beat pompey at is current ground, and thats only been the last 6 years. Average all time attendance, top gate, honors, time in top flight is all Pompey's

I say Ashdown to produce a MOTM display, including a late penalty save, as it matter to him so much. Then he'll return to Premiership Reading in the summer for £3mill or so as a hero.

Pompey's ground is atrocious, their fans are the biggest bunch of pikey cnuters in the world, their manager is a crook, they are not a bigger club than Southampton. Saints support despite their crapness rarely goes below 18-20,000, Pompey don't sell out home games. Oh and we never get a decent result against them.

I am not in any way a closet Southampton fan, but they are much better and far more harmless club supported by fairly decent folk (on my experience) with hardly any delusions of grandeur, apart from Nigel Quashie.
