Personally I doubt there will be a 'mass exodus' as feared. Certain players have all but gone anyway but apart from the obvious I can't see many going unless we get good offers.

Shorey, Fae, probably Lita and a few fringe players will go but I can't see a mass overhaul.

I think the last 5 months will have caused a few managers to re-assess whether some of our players really are worth the £5 million bids the papers were speculating on not so long ago.

The only players I'd be really surprised to see in a Reading shirt next season are Shorey and Matejovsky.

And Fae, obviously, for different reasons.

Definately leave? Shorey and Fae.

Definately stay? None of them, although I'd be very surprised if anyone came in for Marcus, Ivar, Murts, Convey or Gunnarsson.

Southbank Old Boy Definately

No, that's definitely, as in the subject line of the thread. It' really easy to remember by just thinking that it stems from the word define. Sorry to mention it, but I'm not very happy tonight. That said, the subject line would read far better for using certainly rather than the, fashionable but not entirely synonomous, definitely.

I just hope nobody comes in for Matejovski, we're not going to tempt class like him to the CCC.

That's Matejovsky, as in the way it's written.

Hunt to Sunderland. He will want to stay in the Premiership.

If Marek has a decent Euro 2008 he will be off.

Rosicky is ruled out too, increases his chance of playing this summer

Odd...hasn't shown it in the last 3 months...

On a serious note, I honestly believe that very few players will go, if anything a couple of players have probably extended their careers with relegation, Murts, USA, Ivar etc... they will hopefully go on to have an outstanding season next year.

Throw in a bit of Bikey, Marek and more experienced Kitson then we could well be looking at an immediate return/play off place quite easily.

You only have to look at the difference in class yesterday to see that when we play we are a class above the Championship teams and looking at the table from this year goes to show how many average sides are up there.

Can someone explain to me how this all works? Can a player force his way out? Most of our players are signed and under contract. When Sunderland went after Hunt in the transfer window, we just said no and that was it. Let's say Sunderland comes after Hunt again. Is it a different set of rules now that we are in the CCC? Do the players have clauses written in their contracts that they are allowed out if a team in the Prem make an offer of X amount of money?

I seem to remember reading that is how we got Doyle so cheap. That someone leaked to the club the minimum bid needing to release him from his deal.

Sorry if this seems real basic, but this hasn't come up in my two years of glory hunting.

I think it is possible for a player to buy his way out of his contract, certainly you can make it plain you wish to go, but, and this is a big but as far as our players are concerned, someone has to want to buy you!

Some of the contracts may have a clause that the player will be allowed to leave if we're relegated but we'll still receive a transfer fee.

As for players forcing a move, the general rule of thumb is that you don't want a player in your squad that doesn't really want to be there. The nature of sport at this level is that you need to be willing and able to put everything you've got into the game to get anything out of it. If a players heart is not in it then you won't get as much out of them. Possible examples in the Reading squad are Shorey, Hunt and Lita who haven't looked as committed or comfortable more recently.

Therefore if a player wants to leave generally they'll get their wish.

As I've said before I don't think we will see mass departures of key players.

Shorey I am 99% certain will be gone.
Hunt I am 95% certain will be gone.
Doyle 50/50 - it depends if someone is willing to match our valuation of him which will be very high.
Lita - I think there is more chance of him now staying
Matejovsky - he has not shown anything so far that will tempt a club to bid big for him. We won't sell him on the cheap and I think that is why he will stay.

But at the end of the day it all comes down to clubs wanting our players enough to offer an amount we deem acceptable. And that is why most of this squad will stay together in my opinion.

He may not have done enough to impress that many Premier League clubs but I think he'll go to Germany where a lot of Czech players play. He played and scored against Germany so they'll know about him and I'm sure a few German clubs were scouting him when we signed him. Hope he stays but I even think he'd take going back to Sparta or Slavia Prague if they could offer him Champions League football. He won't want to jeopardise his place in the Czech squad with Championship football. Hope to be proved wrong though!

But it all depends on a big enough offer coming in (unless he has some silly release clause in his contract). Reading do not have a recent history of selling players on the cheap and remember we even got £500k for Andy Hughes.
