Tilehurst End Personally I'm very proud to have a man of integrity in charge of my team, a man who is highly respected by his peers, pundits, players, journalists etc., a man who does not try to be a celebrity and has little time for the prima-dona modern player.
I just hope that he can rekindle his enthusiasm and find a new batch of "young and hungry" to take us back to the promised land, with maybe the help of a fresh, young coach who has played in the modern game.
Are you busy Mr Sheringham

Toxteth O'Grady (USA) That said, we will never reconcile the "Madjeski get your cheque book out" question (i.e. would it make a difference) unless we have a manager prepared to bang his door down and apply some pressure - and SSC is never going to do that.

This is very true.
If, as some people are convinced, Madejski hasn't given Coppell the funds he felt he needed to improve the side I can't see Coppell being one to apply the kind of pressure that someone like Pardew would've done to get that bit extra out of him. It just doesn't seem to be his style.
I've always felt that Coppell wasn't aggressive enough in the transfer market and that he was never going to sell the club enough to the players he would want to bring in. Pardew, for all his spin and bluster, was one for actively going out and trying to raise the bar for us. If anything Coppell has been the opposite in this respect.

Coppell has always said he only signs one year contracts as he believes in giving himself and the club the opportunity to reflect at the end of each season - AND because he believes in the principle that contracts should be adhered to.
He also wants to take full responsibility.
If he tenders his resignation he effectively backs down on his contract and abdicates responsibility by walking away from his opportunity to take that responsibility seriously and try to lead us back up.
SSC must ask himself the question - is he the man of principal he purports to be? If he is - he must stay. If he's not he will be letting a lot of people down judging by what i'm reading on here.
That said, we will never reconcile the "Madjeski get your cheque book out" question (i.e. would it make a difference) unless we have a manager prepared to bang his door down and apply some pressure - and SSC is never going to do that.

Drew_3 this is why pardew left though, he applied the pressure and got nothing, and for what its worth he would not have taken us as far as sir steve has!
