Speculation: A Busy Summer

We need to take drastic action in the summer, i feel we need to make between 5-9 signings depending on departures

Who would you (realistically ) like to see bought in?

If we had 0 transfer dealings this summer, in and out, then i would be a very happy man

Today showed we are a class above in terms of the championship

I'm not convinced. That Derby team would struggle in the CCC. Jewell has already said that most of them will never play for Derby again. As for RFC, if we are serious about challenging to go back up next year we need to keep (most of) our best players and build the squad with youth and new blood. Maybe James Henry and Alex Pearce will get a chance now after all. Having said that I wouldn't have a problem if we sold one or two players like Hunt and Shorey to get the money to rebuild.

I really do not want to lose players like Matejovsky, Kitson, Bikey, Rosenior though.

yeah lets be honest the big thing is not who we bring in, it's who we sell: its essential not to lose marek, the prospect of him ripping championship defences to shreds is mouthwatering, and lita is a reallygood championship player,he might actually be able to do his rolling off defewmders! i'm not sure whether kev is really that important though....

More complacency. We can't just plod into next season and expect to win it. The team needs freshening up; the same principles apply as they would have had we stayed up. Pick the nucleus of the team, try to keep them, and bring in quality around them. If we can, let's build the team around Hahnemann, Rosenior, Bikey, Harper, Marek, and Kitson (although I fear a couple of these may leave). Add Henry, Pearce and an emerging Karacan, and perhaps Convey, Ingimarsson and Sonko, and we have half a squad of players good enough for the Championship (imho). Now add to them with some shrewd buys.

As for who to bring in, I think we could do far worse than Dave Nugent. Probably at a slightly higher than average Championship price, perhaps £2.5m or so. Hasn't scored at Portsmouth in the league and I am sure they will want to get rid this summer. A very good record at our level.

TBH I thought we weren't that good at all - some nice flashes, but mainly dull predictable fare (Hunt!) with an over-reliance on the long punt and channel balls even when the more crafted ball is on.

The reason the scoreline was so convincing is that Derby are just completely atrocious with absolutely no discipline in defence and midfield and no threat up front.

OUT:

Stack
Halls
De La Cruz
Bennett
Sonko
Shorey
Oster
Hunt
Little
Fae
Gunnarsson

IN:

Bring through some youth, and improve the squad!

With Palace not going up now, i'd like to see a concerted effort to go and get Ben Watson. Other than that, it'll be same old story, wait for the big clubs to make their moves and pick up the scraps from the fallout it creates! Maybe take a couple of young reserves from the 'big 4' on loan?
Madejski is going to want the squad trimmed down anyways (save a few extra quid!) so we won't we directly replace every player that departs, thats for sure!

If Coppell leaves, don't you dare apply for the job.

Watson would be a good buy, hopefully he is still on our radar- we would need to push the boat out a little though especially as it concerns our friens Colin. I think Nugent would be a very decent signing as well, probably be able to get him on the 3million mark.

I would happily have Nugent and Watson in our team.

A few other suggestions, which while they are ambitious are the sort of players we should be targeting and they are Frazer Campbell on loan from united at hull (assuming they don't go up) Wayne Hennessey(sp?) and Ebanks-Blake from wolves or even Joe Ledley at Cardiff. All young and are probably targets for lower premiership sides, would also probably need to break transfer record but could be worth a shot.

A few other players off the top of my head....

Marvin Elliott at City looks a handy player (weren't we linked last summer?)
Brian Howard is available on a free from Barnsley (scored 14 from midfield this season)
Darren Huckerby could be worth a year?
Andrew Surman from Southampton
Stearman from Leicester is a good young player
Buzsaky (sp?) from QPR is also a player i have always rated highly

Also handy young players from Man united/ Arsenal/ Liverpool/ Chelsea could be worth a year loan seeing as Reading is highly regarded by Wenger, Ferguson etc for playing football the right way?

Hope to see James Henry get a chance next season....

Also should look at that youngster at Cardiff Aaron Ramsey looks very good, but rumours are that some of the " Big 4 " are looking at him.

Looks like Hunty and Shorey are definately on the move, also Doyler could join Hunty at Sunderland.

Richard Hughes from Portsmouth would be a good signing and would help stregthen our midfield.

Some excellent down to earth reporting from the Geordie boys:

"Shorey was once hot property when Steve McClaren included him in the England set up, but he has hardly been uprooting trees in the latter half of the season.

So Reading's relegation was the chance for the media to make Shorey an 'easy target' for any club chairman that happens to have £2.5million in his arse pocket.

The Daily Star says Shorey will "lead a mass exodus from relegated Reading" ... but the Daily Star has a habit of printing bollox."
