The last season at Elm Park was the first season i started watching Reading and it became more and more regular as the season continued. I remeber well the day of Tommy's first home game when we beat Stoke 2-0 and he was the first manager who's spell at RFC i followed week in week out. Bournemouth away was my first away game on my birthday and i'll never forget Mark McKeever's goal in the 1-0 win at Dean Court.

Maybe he did good for the club in the long term thanks to the money he splashed out on players, a lesson from which John Madejski has probably learned from.

I hope there is some sort of tribute at the start of the season for him. Cancer is a shit way to die.

Thanks for the meories Tommy

RIP

A big loss to football..

There is a lot of love out there for Tommy.

Well respected person.

There is no good age to die, but at 51?

I feel really sorry for his wife, family and close friends.

He was a good man... He was always a footballer that I apreciated as a player when I was growing up... He was not my Hero tho as that was Gordon Strachan but he was one of them.

Good footballer as well tho http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lt8YK-iUmd0

Graeme Murty , Nicky Forster

And whats it matter if he was successful at Reading doesn't mean he was a poor manager. His type of football was not right for the bowels of the English leagues

And who else? No-one, that's right. Deadline day 7 or 8 or 100.

His type of football wasn't fit for table football let alone real football.

This is a RIP thread, not a slag-him-off thread. He's dead, you need to move on. Take it elsewhere friend.

Great manager, ill-suited to our predicament and set up. Look back fondly on what he's done, but perhaps glossing over at what he did here, not that it detracts much in the scheme of things.

Just shows great players don't make great managers and he was a great player in his day. A sad loss RIP

How humbling it was today to see one of the great sporting rivalries, Celtic and Rangers, unite to celebrate the life of Tommy Burns, unity ephasised with Rangers Walter Smith and Ally Mcoist Carrying the coffin, there was a fantasic turn out in Glasgow which only went to show just how well thought of Tommy was, a kind, fiendly and generous man with his words he will be greatly missed by so many, god bless you Tommy RIP.
