Chopra has to be the yardstick - is Lita really only worth less than half as much?

Well Chopra at least got a few goals last season, and of course Lita is now a Championship player.

Chopra was also a Championship player when signed.

Goals scored by Lita in his first prem season - 7.
Goals scored by Chopra in his first prem season - 6.

Again, looks like a decent yardstick to me for what are pretty comparable players, quality-wise.

Chopra isn't worth any more than £2m either.

Lita said after we were relegated that layers, especially young ones, never go through a relegation again.

With that in mind, why would he ever go to Bristol?

The Blackburn rumour has more legs I think.

Any chance of a cheeky swap for Matt Derbyshire in that case, provided he recovers from his current injury of course.

That would be a great swap. A bit unlikely though as I think they've just given him a brand spanking new contract to tie his future down. Shame though, I think he looks a great prospect.

As for the price comparison with Chopra, I guess a comparison between their remaining contract and the clubs willingness to offload them would have a big big impact on the size of any transfer fee.

Today's rumour site suggests that Stoke will take Lita for £9m.

I'll get my car and drive him there myself - bankers draft only please.

Stoke will not be spending 9 million on any player. Least of all Lita. You can trust me on that..

Except we're not talking about what Lita's was worth last summer - if Chopra scores only a single goal next year and ends up getting loaned to a Championship side it's fair to say his value will decline a fair bit too. Rightly or wrongly (wrongly) the general perception out there is probably that Chopra has more promise.

I am not so sure.....
27/05/2008 - City top scorer told: You can go
Bristol City have told leading goalscorer Darren Byfield he can leave after just one season at Ashton Gate.
The 31-year-old striker, who netted eight times in the Championship last term, is one of five players released by Robins boss Gary Johnson. Byfield's exit, just nine months after he joined from Millwall, indicates Johnson's desire to free up money for the acquisition of at least one new striker during the summer.http://www.atthegate.co.uk/news/City-top-scorer-told316114456.aspx

I'll be shocked and frankly appalled if we sell to another club in the CCC. Esp. one that could well be in the promotion mix-up next year.

I don't think Bristol City will have the money required to get Lita from us.

And their fans don't seem to want him back anyway.

They certainly have sufficient to buy Leroy paricularly as they get a discount of 25% of the excess over £1m by virtue of the sell on clause. Their Chairman Steve Lansdown was reported this week as confirming that failure to gain promotion will not alter planned spending on players :-
26/05/2008 - City chief Lansdown pledges to build again
Emotional Bristol City chairman Steve Lansdown has set his sights on a top-two finish next season.
Lansdown admitted the 1-0 Championship play-off final defeat to Hull City had reduced him to tears.
Now he is determined to fend off any Premier League clubs who try to swoop for his manager Gary Johnson - and build a side that can claim automatic promotion.
"We have got to see how we make sure that doesn't happen again," he said of the loss. "We have got to be in the top two next time or we come here and we bloody well win."
The City chief insisted the club's transfer plans would not change greatly because of the result.
"We know what we wanted to do whether we went up or not," he said.
"We are just going to have to strengthen the squad and keep building.

As for the fans the ones I know are like Royals fans in that they either love him or hate him. Most would see him as a good signing as lack of goals was their downfall this year.

Personally I hope we can keep him but I suspect that SC might want to get rid and what I hear locally is that given the right personal terms Leroy would
welcome a return to Ashton Gate.

Rumour- Lita on his way out

by RTFC Drummer » 02 Jun 2008 16:31

There have been a lot of rumours spreading that Lita will leave asap. He is going to be sold to Hully City and speculation is that he will be sold for 4.5 million.
