Ojc lol true, but same could be said about most teams believing next season will be their season.

I don't support Wolves BTW, just you can see what McCartney is doing at Wolves and after watching them against West Brom which IMO was the most entertaining game of the Championship last season you can see marked improvement.

Jez Moxey (wolves MD) has said on several occassions that following Steve Morgan's purchase of the Club, they were basing their strategy for promotion on our Championship squad (i.e. young, hungry, tight knit squad) from what I saw of them last year they aren't doing a bad imitation (with the obvious exception of not having a manager of Coppell's class).

I think that they will be involved in the fight for a play off spot but hopefully their year (if they have to have one) won't be next year.

Are you for real mate? Apart from the top 4 of the Premiership any number of Championship sides could beat Premiership sides. Get a grip.

14/1 are the ones to look out for....you think QPR are rich? Look closer at those in Suffolk quietly going about their business.

You know nothing about football, keep your gob shut lad.

The Championship isn't a strong league, theres just a lot of very average sides in it. Look at the sides that went up this season and the amount of games they lost.

Sorry, all that shows is the relative strength within the league certainly not a comparison with any other group of teams. You'd really have to look at when Championship teams played Premiership teams but even that would be flawed.

If we keep the same rough starting 11 (which interchanged quite a lot throughout the season), minus damage limitation of 3 key players leaving (Shorey, Doyle?, Hunt?), I see no reason why we wouldn't still be second (or outright) favourites. Even so, the signs from Doyle and Hunt are good. Can't understand Brum being shorter than us though...

I do hope some posters' comments on here don't come back to haunt them in a similar way to those being made about Sunderland at the beginning of last season...

It's only one books early price. Birmingham's price may be a trading move or a reflection that they have a larger fanbase thus greater weight of anticpated backing

True, a lot of it is about confidence.
The confidence of the team this season just gone would have meant a poor season in Div 2 also.

MH is right, the mental attitude of the players has to be ON IT from day 1 of pre-season, all the way through.

Teams will flood the midfield against us, make it hard for us to score.
On paper, we should be one of the best teams in the League, but we need a good start and a good run early to set us up.

For the first time ever in this League, we are one of the top favourites to be Promoted.

How can we handle that?
The expectation.

I'm not expecting a procession like last time, all I want is the Club to be 100% focused, we have the set-up and hopefully the squad to do this.

The rest SHOULD fall into place.

Have you actually watched any of the teams in the Championship? The standard is terrible. Stoke and whoever goes up via the play offs will be lucky to get 20 points next season in the Premiership. West Brom only have a chance because they play a better brand of football.

Just because the league is competitive doesn't mean it's high on quality. The Championship is competitive because 90% of the teams are average. The difference between a midtable side and a side challenging for promotion is often the quality of a clubs loan signings.

A Reading fan telling me I know nothing about football  Funniest thing I have heard all year. Luckily a few supporters have already told you to STFU before I did.

Anyway, Derby won't win this league, not a cat in hells chance. Birmingham might mount a challenge simular to West Brom's this season depending on what players they manage to keep hold of.

QPR might well be signing a lot of players, but that doesn't always mean they will go up, look at Leicester they brought in 12 players over the course of the season and ended up getting relegated.

I fully expect Reading, Ipswich, Wolves to be the main challengers next season as they play the game the proper way and Wolves and Ipswich have been steadily improving and providing Reading keep hold of their core players they should fare ok.

You do know nothing about football if you're seriously comparing Leicester signing 12 players with the type of player QPR will go for.

Ipswich will be lucky to make the play offs. A nothing team these days I'm afraid.

LOL @ the idea of a Reading fan describing a team that finished 8th in the 2nd tier of English football as a "nothing team"

Indeed, considering the amount of talent Ipswich have produced over the years, we have nothing to point and laugh at. Other than Finidi George, obviously

The league next season will be tight up the top. Off my head, there will be the 3 relegated teams, Wolves, Sheff Utd, Ipswich, Watford, Charlton (I can see Pards getting it right sooner rather than later), QPR, Crystal Palace and most probably a surprise package or 2 pushing for promotion. Then there's the play-off final losers, and you're looking at about 12 teams who have a seriously good chance of winning promotion. The squads will be at a similar level of ability and it will come down to form, mentality and attitude. The squads that can develop an understanding and go into every game confident of winning and show consistency will go up, whilst those who occasionally show what they're capable of but lose to opposition they should beat will finish in mid-table or narrowly miss out, just like we used to. The key will be the squad regaining that spirit that sapped away this season and getting on with each other again. They must turn up to every training session and match forgetting about last season's disappointment and focus on the job in hand as the teams in this league are so tight an off day will result in defeat whoever you play.

Coppell staying is the first step to ensuring this positive mood around the club. He is facing up to the challenge and leading by example with his wages and stuff. Our captain has also done the same, as has Marcus, an experienced pro who you'd expect younger players to look up to. Likewise the fans have responded brilliantly, I'd say I've never seen a load of relegated fans respond so well. Kitson's backing of Coppell will add to all this too. I think we need to get rid of any players who think they're too good to play in the Championship (Shorey is quietly certain he'll go) and have everybody up the challenge, with nobody feeling sorry for themselves. Add a few young hungry young players, who have something to prove, such as Karacan who clearly impressed at Millwall (I read that forum posted yesterday, people were comparing him to Cahill) and James Henry and we're perfectly set up to bounce back.

Despite the noises of JM, Hammond and Howe on transfer and things like that, I feel that the way the fans, club staff, management and players have responded to relegation has been nothing short of excellent and if we can keep this going over the summer I believe we can bounce back. It's when rumours start linking players to Premiership clubs and Roy Keane makes another load of public bids that will be tested.

Consistently challenged for promotion from the 2nd tier of English football whilst bringing through a whole succession of talented young players, reaching a youth cup final and considered by many to play the most attractive football outside of the top flight.

All of the above certainly constitute substantially more than "nothing" unless of cause you think the world of football begins and ends with the Premier League.

Care to tell us which club you nail your colours too.

Reading finished 9th and 7th in 2004 and 2005, fantastic achievment and the whole football world took note didn't they?

If you think floating around 12-6th in the second tier of English football is something special then fair play.

No-ones claiming its "something special" but it hardly constitutes the "nothing club" you define it as unless of course the fact that neither club is in tonight's Champions League final means they have no merit whatsoever. .

You also asked to be reminded of what they have done in the last 6 years which i've underlined for you.

These talented players, care to elaborate on how well they've done?

Darren Bent is the only one that's gone onto to decent things if you exclude this season. Unless you include the likes of Ian Westlake they've brought through no one of note after they sold Stewart, Holland, Bramble and Ambrose back in 2002/2003.

Cardiff City have brought through much better players in Gunter and Ramsey in the last year alone and also reached an FA Cup final.

Cardiff>Ipswich.

Everyone needs to stop talking Reading down. Coppell is the best manager in the league and he'll have the budget to sign some decent players. The squad is much stronger than in 2005/2006. The odds on Reading are about right and reflect what a fantastic club, side and manager they have.
