Shorey - How much will he go for?

by Y25 » 21 May 2008 21:05

We all know he is on the way out so looking at the silly money going around in football how much do you think he will go for?

Bearing in mind he was shit for the entire 2007/8 season I would say only 3-5 Million

Don't get me wrong he has done great things for the club and would have been superb in the Coco Cola but to be honest I can't wait for him to go

I don't care really. In my mind he has already gone. Compare his behaviour this season with that of Sidwell last year. Sidwell played with 100% commitment and made tackles in every game which could have lead to injuries that lost him his million pound plus season at Chelsea. Shorey played awfully at the beginning and end of this season. Good riddance to him. I hope he goes to Bolton and doesn't make the first team.

About as much as we got for Andy Hughes.

I have to think he will be over 5 million (I can hope anyway).

He can go for 5p for all I care. Was absolute sh*te all season and a reason we went down. If you don't want to play for Reading you can f*ck off as far as I'm concerned.

We'll probably get 2-3 million for him, no more.

He's only got a year left on his contract which brings the price down. I'd say £3mill.

Saying 'we don't have any money' and 'we hope someone comes in with a good offer' is not going to push the price up is it? I think some of the commercial brains at Reading need to take a basic course in business studies or economics before opening their mouth about transfers at the club.

Saying that the 'we don't have any money' line could allow us to drive a harder bargain when we're after potential targets.

With 1 year left and a shocking season £1.75m - £2m is the best we could expect to get for him.
I hope where ever he goes they get relagated next year

A few million, then complain we can't find a replacement because they are too expensive

Reading FC already pimping him on SSN "Were open to offers for Nicky"
So no stampede to sign him it seems.

He has been a very good player for us over the years it's just a shame that he has been a bag of shit this year. Mr Coppello should never have played him after he was tapped up by WestSham , he never seemed interested after that.
One of the worst displays by a Reading player in recent times was Shorey's against Fulham!

In todays financial climate he should go for no less than £6 million Bucks. He is a capped England international.

Yesterday Nigel Howe announced to the world that we needed to sell some of our stars to help balance the books and before Steve Coppell will be allowed to spend any money on the new players we desperately need.

That pronouncement, together with Shorey's very indifferent form/performances this year will be used by any potential buyers to depress the price.

So, all in all, I don't think the price paid will reach £3M - that's even if we are told!

Just to make people feel even worse, wouldn't mind betting that Shorey has a clause in his contract entitling him to a lump sum payment from RFC if he is sold whilst in contract! These don't normally kick in if a player has requested a transfer but I don't believe he has formally done that.

Can't help thinking that a 'We don't need to sell any of our players and will only do so if we get exceptional offers.' might have been a better marketing line!

rhroyal Saying that the 'we don't have any money' line could allow us to drive a harder bargain when we're after potential targets.

Not if other clubs are after the same targets it won't!

How often has that line worked for you when you're after something that is of value and in demand?!

What's more our implied desire to get our players wages down below the upper quartile of what is paid in The Championship won't help secure targets either!

the chairman saying we are short of money is frankly rubbish, we've had 2 years worth of tv money, nearly 3 playing to crowds large enough to make a profit, not to mention all the extra money from hospitality and advertisements and we've hardly spent a very much in our two years in the top flight. oh and we're getting a cool £11,OOO,OOO just for being relegated.

It is all just spin to make other football clubs think we aren't flushed with money so that when it comes to transfer dealings they can attempt to drive a harder bargain.

Unlike the Sunderland approach of "we have £50m to spend, how much of it do you want for this player?".

I am amazed at how much people are reading in to these comments.
