Huntley & Palmer I seem to remember a certain player we signed threatning to go on strike if his club didn't release him

Who was that? I can't remember such an incident.

.:BigDaveInTheDungeon:. the chairman saying we are short of money is frankly rubbish, we've had 2 years worth of tv money, nearly 3 playing to crowds large enough to make a profit, not to mention all the extra money from hospitality and advertisements and we've hardly spent a very much in our two years in the top flight. oh and we're getting a cool £11,OOO,OOO just for being relegated.

I agree frankly that is Bullshit 'Little Reading' shouldn't be a feeder club

but if a player thinks he is bigger and better than RTFC he can oxf*rd off

Unless he only wants to consider a move to West Ham, surely it depends on how good his agent is at talking up his potential to interested bidders? If it comes to a bidding war, the price will be much better than if it's a one horse race.

Given that he's publicly up for auction, how can we drum up more bidders?

According to RG30, at the Fans' Forum, SC said, not Shorey was close to Sidders. Sidders may not play much these days but he is now a very wealthy man. Shorey was offered a good contract (best in RFC history) and it wasn’t rushed through due to his wedding. When he came back from honeymoon he was adamant that he wanted to move. SC said he could go if he could find a replacement and a good offer came in for him. West Ham offered £4M which was not enough (Baines to Everton was more and he wasn’t England player) – even Shorey admitted that it was not a fair price. There was no interest since and no increased bids. Shorey has felt unsettled but basically he’s not been playing as well (but knows he needs to play well to get a good move). He was disappointed that there was no interest in January. Chances are (almost guaranteed) that he will leave in the summer.

So, the club was after more than £4M last summer. But now, I think anything around £3M would be taken quick as a shot, & may have to accept a fair bit less.

Personally if i was in charge of a premiership club and i looked at Shorey's performances last season, i wouldn't buy him.

I honestly believe that he won't go anywhere this summer, because no one will want him...we'll at least not at a price the club would be willing to let him go for (minimum 2 million).

Reading fans are of aware of the talent he possesses, my hope is that he will regain that form in the championship.

Full-backs are pretty pricy these days. Look at the fees paid for Baines, Chimbonda, Bale, Hutton* etc and it's a position that's nearly as over-priced as forwards. Add on the extra 25% for being English and £5m isn’t unrealistic.

*Granted, Spurs do appear obsessed with full-backs...

The difference is they were all playing well when they were sold. All i saw from Shorey last season...was him getting stuffed for pace by utaka, and playing endless hopeful balls down the line, instead of trying to play the ball as he did last season.

Most managers will be aware of the talent that allowed him to play so well previously and earnt him a deserved call up to the England squad.

They will know why he underperformed last year and think they can get him playing back at his potential again.

The fact he's had a bad season, plays for a relegated side and only has one year left on his contract at a club that could do with reducing it's wage bill just makes him all the more attractive because that adds up to a lower proce tag.

He'd be worth a lot more if he played well!

Exactly. That's why managers will want to buy him.

Due to his performance last season, i cannot see a premiership manager wanting to buy him.

Marcus also made a similar point, saying that a number of players didn't do themselves any favors last season. I put Nicky in that list.

I feel sorry for Shorey's agent whose commission is dropping by the hour since relegation.

He will have a family to support you know!

I think Shorey was to whom Marcus was specifically referring!
