FiNeRaIn The old plastic argument out again. LOL@ fans like swindon and oxford calling us out on it, yet when their crowds increase due to success they are not plastic? how does that work.
Think we can all agree though, we need plastics even though they are annoying happy clapping idiots.

More than we need you certainly.

I've had a season ticket for years, since i was 12. Followed the club home and away every season since, sat in front of crowds of fcuk all against leyton orient in the LDV, spent 600 quid on a season ticket this year despite only being able to go a small numbers of home games as I was travelling away. Yes, fans like me you don't need Ianroyal, twat.

Getting back on topic. Isn't it amazing to see what delusions of grandeur some Oxford fans actually harbour. That so called forum is a real tonic.

Plenty of new fans queueing up to spend their money, many of whom will stay and go to many games. Not that I was talking about how much you might spend.

You never know, people who can not afford a season ticket will go and support either Oxford United or Reading Town.

Otto on the oxf*rd times site Clearly a Reading fan trying to be substantial by pretending not to be. I just checked out their forum and they're all very keen to convince themselves that they won't lose any fans but given how many people in Oxford appear to know people that were only there to see the opposition, and given how many fans they had pre Christmas of their promotion year, I think we can safely say they'll be in a pickle...
A. Premiership wages to pick up
B. A Chairman and benefactor who wants to jump ship
C. The most plastic fans and stadium imaginable....passio
nless.

I thoroughly enjoyed my day out at Pride Park on Sunday seeing close up all the cry babies.

Bowman's Quiver Have they got a football team in Oxford?

Oh yes, they're my favourite non-league team.

I wonder if Reading could "adopt" them as such?

Quite right. You have to have a soft spot for the little clubs in our region.

No actually he's not.

B is true.

and C isn't far off the mark.

I'm not going to be defending Reading FC mindlessly just because I happen to be a Reading fan. The fact is there is truth in what he says.

And from what I can tell that article isn't toally unfair. Yes of course less people will watch us, and yes of course some of those who no longer come to watch us *might* go to wathc Oxford instead.

Obviously if you're living exactly halfway between Oxford and Reading you're not going to choose a conference side over a Championship side with (now) big names a big manager and 2nd favourites for promotion BUT

what about those living closer to Oxford who were perhaps Oxford fans...? Prem footy might well have *just* about lured them away from watching their town and coming down to Reading instead despite the massive cost and distance. Championship footy will obviously not have quite the same pull and a small minority might just save on the cost and the hassle and go back to wathing Oxford instead.

I don't think this is rocket science, and it's certainly not unfair. Or annoying in the slightest. Just stating what should be an obvious fact.

2 stands and non league football versus frequently sold out 24,000 all seater and the Championship. Hmmmmmmm.

2 stands?
The last 2 times we played Oxford there were 3 iirc?
The Kassam is a tidy ground - better than Elm Park so frankly little room for snobbery over this!

As for mentioning 24,000 sell outs and the CCC in the same breath? Well time will tell.....

To go back to the thread title, I don't find it the slightest bit annoying.

I think its just funny. LOL at them still concerned with what we are doing!!!

Almost as funny as Reading fans getting all bent out of shape at what O****d fans think.

Brief chuckle, move on to something that matters.

I was referring more to the bit in bold (hence highlighting that bit) about 'trying to be substantial', the rest of it is valid.

C is a load of bollox. Our fans arn't passionless as can be shown by the atmosphere last season, and any number of other games, including Derby away.

Being a little more reserved doesn't make us passionless, or plastic. Look at Coppell. He doesn't jump around and shout all th etime. Anyone want to question his passion for the game?

All medium to big clubs have elements that make them look plastic when taken in isolation. It's the nature of the beast. Small clubs like Oxford have none of that, because they can't attract anyone but die hard fans who'd watch them playing in a peat bog, because right now they are shit.

They have a shit semi completed stadium which is grey and soulless. Just because it looks like it's made of cheap concrete and ours looks plastic doesn't mean ours is cheap and tacky (pretty much what plastic suggests)

B) is also wrong. Madejski isn't looking to jump ship. If he was he would easily have found a buyer at a reasonable price and got shot. He is looking to move the club onto the next level, which he can't or won't sustain on his own fortune. But that doesn't mean he'll leave us completely. He has also publicly stated, and all his actions over the years suggest he's telling the truth, that he'll only sell to the right person. Someone who has the best interests of the club and community at heart.

If the right person(s) don't come along he'll still be with us in another 5 or 10 years time. Maybe having stepped down for one of his daughters.

One thing you can be sure of is with him in Charge we won't end up owned by a dirty cock like Shinawatra in charge. Or Ken Bates. For which I'm eternally grateful.

The only thing that is right is that we have Premiership wages to look after and cut back on.

I don't think any Oxford fan, with their dreadful unfinished MFI flatpack stadium, can really knock ours. Having seen one or two of their games on Setanta this season, their support doesn't exactly turn the place into the Ali Sami Yen either.

If any fans travelled from the Oxford area just to watch live Premiership matches, I suspect that they will abandon us to return to their armchairs in front of a plasma screen, not to go along to the Kassam.

I wonder how many people try to watch home games of both teams?
