I apologised too. I also didn't have a problem with constructive criticism as there was clearly plenty to criticise. I had a problem with defeatism and unnecessary and unfair criticism. The STGs may have been right about relegation, but many of them had a view so polarised is was untrue.

As did a few of the RTGs. Had we stayed up the STGs concerns wouldn't have been unfounded, just as the RTGs confidence and faith weren't unfounded just because we got relegated.

Oh and for a long long time before that as well I can assure you. I was one of the ones who wanted Coppell to go after the 2004/5 season.

The fact that people actually care about my posts even more than I do myself, and often go to the trouble to dig old ones up as a means of oneupmanship, is kind of flattering.

I should imagine that people find my kind of support (and the odd soft insult that never went further than "negative tossers" IIRC) somewhat less objectionable than the virtual hate campaign conducted by your "good" self against one of our most loyal, hard-working and talented stalwarts.

But the RTGs were not arguing that we wou;dn't go down.

They were saying we would not be involved in a relagation scrap, would finish mid table easily and that anyone who thought otherwise knew less about football.

That's what annoyed people.

For 06/07 yes - for 07/08 that's not how I remember it.

which isnt the same thing at all

There was a band of 'RTG's' that certainly tried to belittle any supporter for not having faith in the club, management or team and strongly suggested that anyone with a more realistic outlook on the way the squad and season was progressing were less of a fan.

I'd hate to count up the condecedning "'uck off and support Chelsea" or "yes of course you know better than the manager with 20 years of experience" type messages that flowed from quite a number of keyboards.

Anytime anyone who predicted we would go down feels a little bit low about something they just need to come back to this thread and make the same point for the upteenth time about how they were right and any stick they received was totally misdirected to give themselves a little lift.

I'm an RTG and I wasn't. I thought at the start of the season we'd be safe lower mid table mediocre. Revised that to difficult season but safe, revised that to relegation dogfight and then admitted relegation just before Derby.

I think you'd be surprised at how few people said we'd be safe easily very far into the season and anyone who disagreed was stupid. That might be what a lot of "STGs" read, but it didn't tend to get said a lot.

Well, if that had happened and we had survived, the RTG's would have sure felt like they had a point alright...and they would no doubt have been rubbing it in ever since, huh Ian?

BTW, my 'point' in that scenario would have been that, even though we had survived, it wouldn't have masked everything. We would still have fukced up massively and made a lot of mistakes/errors for us to have been so close to going down and for having put the club in a position of nearly doing so. In other words, whether up or down on the last day, the club screwed up this season...which I assume is an 'STG' view, right?
