Worst moment this season?

by Royal Family » 27 May 2008 16:23

We've had best moment in the EPL, worst player & various other related threads, so what was the worst moment this season for you? Pompeys 7th? Keanes winner at the Madstad? Nevlands or Helgusons 2nd for their respective club at the Madstad? The final whistle at Pride Park?

Personally mine was when the voice on my transistor radio piped up at about 4.30 on that fateful Sunday .... "and there's goal news from Fratton Park" - You just KNEW which way it had gone!

away to Fulham.

Proof positive that we were going to struggle, imo.

The stewards and police hitting Reading fans at the end of the game at Derby.

Half time against Spurs at home. Any time against Fulham at home. But top of them all was the West Ham home game. That signalled the end of a magical, against all the odds era.

Even though we went down on the last day I was delighted with our great result.

In all the misery of that day I forgot to ask anyone what went on down in the corner. What were the police and stewards reacting to?

Fulham at home - our big day, the day we secured survival and sent Fulham down, after our revival in March, and the team gave the most gutless performance I've seen for years.

Closely following that, West Ham at home - the previous 3 home matches against West Ham are amongst my (and most fans') favourites and I almost assumed we would win. Instead we got torn apart, proving the Bolton match wasn't a one off.

Derby was nowhere near as bad as those two, before the game and for the first 75 minutes it was brilliant - great atmosphere and Reading walking all over them, looked like we were staying up. When Fulham scored it was very disappointing but only because our hopes had been built up over the first 75 minutes.

Sunderland away - huge journey, dismal performance, lost comfortably to a side that was clearly going to struggle, at that point it we clear we were in big trouble. Topped off by missing the last fast train from Paddington by 0.1 seconds adding another hour or so to the 18 hour odd round trip.

The penalty at Spurs (a). It just felt like an absolute sickener.

Easy. Losing pathetically at home to Fulham and having to listen to "How Sh1t Must You Be" and knowing it was true.

Fulham. Didn't know whether to laugh or cry. Laughed in the end. Ive only just realised that I still haven't forgiven the team for that display. It will always live with me, and has tainted my view on every player that played that day, almost permanently.

This morning when I went to Sportinglife.com/football/premiership and saw that we were no longer listed in the team news menu, instead I see Stoke  . Conversely when we gained promotion this was the best moment seeing our name in that list at last and no longer on the championship page. This might seem daft to those lucky enough to have witnessed all of the last two seasons but as an exile this was/is proof positive that we really really were a premiership team and it wasn't just a dream.

No contest , Fulham at home , bearing in mind the importance of the game and what would have happened if we'd just got a 0-0 , the worst game in RFC's long history .

Yeah, Fulham for me too. It wasn't the result - if the boys had fought as we know they can and still lost 0-2 then fair enough. But the lack of spirit......unforgivable. That wasn't a Reading team out there that day, that's for sure.
