Mr Madejski Selling Up

by madstadblues » 21 May 2008 09:24

There seems to be a lot made of Mr Mad. selling the business and commitment to the club. IMO he is getting a lot of flak from being honest. He has always said that he is not planning to be the billionaire benefactor to spend his entire personal fortune on the club. Having said that he also doesn't want to sell the club who isn't going to take it forward in the same manner but with more investment. He has created something good that he would be willing to sell based on the right circumstances to enable the 'project' to be moved forward - in my view it doesn't mean he is non commited, he just wants to see the club develop further 'the Reading way'.

One of the other threads talked about selling a Bentley. If I had lovingly restored a classic Bentley and wanted to sell it I would be reluctant to sell it to be rallied or raced by someone regardless of the money offered.

BTW Good news Steve 'I'm so excited' is staying....

as long as he keeps his commitment to sell it to someone who will fight to always get the best for RFC, and not just make a quick profit ill doff my cap to him as he leaves as the most important influence in dragging this club kicking and screaming into the century of the fruitbat.
to go from where we were in a corrogated tin shed(sorry elm park, i loved you and all that but...)
with gates of 4000, yo-yoing between the 2nd/3rd/4th tiers, to where we are now, is a huge achievement, and i cant believe he gets as much grief as he does, mostly for trying to run RFC as a decent business who wont go tits up if he leaves/TV deals fall through/relegation happens etc

Any Chance Of Reading Being Sold to a Billionaire you Reckon

by knights_1990 » 10 Jun 2008 16:06

Its been no secret of John Madejski that he wants to sell our club to the right sort of wealthy person but i see problems with what he is doing: He is asking too much for such a club as Reading. He is also unwilling to break the bank to build our reputation and therefore not attracting any interest.

Now got to be fair but John has done a lot for us but is it time for this man to move on and allow us to get some young ambitious owners in?

What you think?

im happy with hw he runs th eclub

but if he wants out then he should lower the price, recoup his losses and a bit of profit and feck off to let us carry on

never forgetting how much he did for us of course

I agree but i feel that being in the championship can give us a fresh start and to do this we need to shift our chaiman/owner as i feel deep down that he is holding us back.

How much is he asking for it? I thought he just wanted 'the right sort of buyer'.

cant believe someone who professes to have our best interests at heart wants to walk away with such a huge profit on any investment. surely if what he says is true
he would take the 40 million back in loans
take another 20 million in profit
and let the new investors spend the extra on improving the team/stadium

if some daft sheikh will pay 100m for a flat in london surely one'll be daft enough to stump up the same sort of cash for a club such as us. brimming, as we do, with all the right sort of potential. ready to bounce back to the hallowed corridors of the top flight of british football...?

This has been pretty much discussed to death in Club Policies and UR&G, but if we really must go into it again, a reasonable valuation of the club was around £110 -£120 million at the start of January, and I understand that was at the low end of what JM was asking. But that's at the point we were comfortably mid-table and looking to build the expansions.

The most important thing in valuing a football club is the guaranteed future revenue from TV contracts - in getting relegated we've turned income of approximately £30 million a year into £24M over 2 years and nothing significant after that .... so the value of the club to a potential buyer has now plummeted.

A billionaire dosen't always give you success just look at Newcastle and Chelsea. John should sell the club so then Reading have a better future and can progress. If he is asking 100 million then thats a laugh not even the most gulable person would buy the club.

Apparently WBA are on the market for £30 million.

A club with a big fan base, and a solid tradition...

So how on earth can he put a price tag of £100 million when WBA are only valued at 30 million.

He hasn't recently. He did when we were a Premier League team. See my post 6 above this one!

But my point is that WBA are a PL side and are only priced at £30 million.

On a similarly financial theme Stockport have REDUCED ticket prices for STHs post promotion. What a refreshing idea!
