Coppell Looks For Excuses Already

Silly me for thinking perhaps he may have tried to look at potential top Championship players when we were in the Prem who could make the step up. I also forgot that we'd been in the Premiership for decades and have no idea what this league holds.

I haven't even bothered to read his post, and I've even ignored the quote in your post.

Since the day we've been relegated everything that has come out of the club has been negative.

Why can't Coppell come out and say "I want my stars to stay so we can attempt an immediate return to the Premiership. I think we are good enough to win this league again".

Forget Waitrose we might as well be sponsored by AB Walker Funeral Directors.

Agree with you, although the negativity came far before relegation - perhaps if Coppell had shown some positivity and confidence then we wouldn't have been anywhere near the relegation zone.

hes just moaning about another quote from copps where he says entirely sensible things about how we must approach the coming season-by picking on some barely relevant and not very prominent quote, which he then twists to conform to his pointlessly negative and slightly unhinged mindset

the usual

i will be submitting this definition to the oxford dictionary types as a description of a new word
to royalee, or royaleeing.

its not even a negative article-its just measured and sensible
any team going out and saying we are going to muller this division is deluded, and setting themselves up for a massive fall-

you lot make me laugh-especially when there are plenty threads about bemoaning our previous positivity about ambition, ground expansion etc

id still rather be in the "proven" wrong RTGB than with you anyday
though im sure the feeling is mutual

The bit that stood out for me was "Until we lose – if we lose – players, we won’t know where to fill in the gaps."

Totally accurate yes, a good way to manage the future of any business let alone a football team, no.

I'm sure this is just a throw away line, but I do hope the club have actually got some plans afoot to replace the players most likely to leave. If not it's negligence on their part.

Agreed. when we are 1-0 down at Forrect after 20 minutes, then we should start.

Does it go on about a "winning mentality"?

If so expect all our best players to be sold off and our youth team to be used for all games this year as they showed they were winners last season!

Well its certainly the first time we've ever been relegated into this Division so its not exactly ridiculous to suggest that the way we react and the way other teams view us and approach us is totally new to anything we've experienced before.

Yep, like yourself i don't take what is said literally but its definitely a concern.I understand that things are a bit up in the air terms of what playing personnel will remain with us and that may well impact on what areas we need but we still have to be pro-active in some ways. Coppell does state that he has transfer targets so i'm sure that is the case but its a delicate balancing act and is a problem most teams that are relegated from the Premiership experience.

i reckon you put on channel 405 at 3.45am when your baby wakes you up expecting to see that Reading have clinched the signing of an African starlet called Omar or Jimmy on an 8 year deal.

Get real Zammo this is Reading we are talking about here.

think its also the case that coppell knows that just going into next season with last years squad isnt an option either
we need to get fresh blood in, and clear out dead wood, and those whose hearts arent in it any more for us
so it would be wrong to go out and say we want everyone to stay and fight
as realistically the team needed rebuilding no matter what happened last season

I'm new to this interweb thingummy but I'm learning the jargon. The above is what's known as a "straw man" I believe, ie set up a false premise (that the club won't have plans to replace players should they leave...) in order to knock it down (...if not, it's negligence). I honestly can't see the point of people constantly doing this.

What are you jibbering on about!

I was pointing out what might be a worrying scenario IF what Coppell says is true. I've also added a bit of balance to what I posted because I don't know the full facts so I'm not jumping to conclusions and having a pop for no reason.

Get ready for loads more mate. We (the fans) have only got ourselves to blame, thanks to those clowns who protested in his car park space, we are consigned to a season full of negativety and more backward progress. When he walks out at Christmas due to our pathetic league position, I doubt they'll be protesting then.

Yes I'm negative, but I see absolutely nothing positive coming from the manager or team so far this year.

its the glasses you are wearing !

you were of course able to demonstrate yourself, at a "feck orf copps demo" as and when you saw fit, if you felt that strongly about it
you chose not to
only have yourself to blame
