IMHO our strikers have always looked a bit lost when he hasn't been on the pitch alongside them. So much of what has been good about our game over the past three seasons has involved him.

We'd be better of sticking out for nearer £5m and if we don't get it be glad we retain a quality Championship striker, part proven Premiership striker, in our Championship team. Kitson probably the player i'd least like to see go but really whether he goes and what we hold out for are dependant on the players attitude.

As Shorey and Hunt have shown to some extent its sometimes better to accept something less than you would perceive to be the optimum fee if the player in question is not going to perform for you in the same way once they have knowledge of a bid.

Kitson has always been his own man in a manner of speaking which could swing things either way. He may decide to stay and show a bit of loyalty or he might well be the player that makes the most fuss about wanting a move. I've a feeling he's more likely to fall into the latter category.

He's 28. Even if we go straight back up he'll be knocking on 30 by the time he gets another chance in the Prem with us. He was strongly rumoured to be on the verge on an England call up before he naused up his chances with that drink driving nonsense.

When have we ever (recently) been in the business of selling our best players? Do you forget that we turned down £4m for Shorey last season?

When else in recent history have we been relegated from the top flight and had players wanted by clubs still in that division? It's a totally different scenario this summer than we've seen before.

We did turn down £4m for Shorey as we didn't want to sell to our divisional rivals and, that price, at that time, was low for a new England international.

If the right bid comes in and the player makes it clear they'd rather move on than stay then we will cash in.
