What about that winger, Johnson is it? Looked pretty good in the championship last year.....

winchester_royal Perhaps we could get Lee Cattemole in exchange (maybe on loan)

Just a thought.

Would be an excellent signing. Young and has alot of talent.

Also Harps is wanted by Bolton apparently....

Bolton and Middlesbrough want to sign Reading's £3.5m-rated midfielder James Harper. (Daily Mirror)

Cattermole's been linked with another C'ship side recently, think it was Cardiff. I'd like to think we'd be a more attractive prospect to him. Would definitely make a good signing, but then again, nothing to suggest that we're remotely interested in him.

Newspaper talk probably but apparently Boro and Bolton have done a deal to ensure they don't pay more than £3m....

At least hardly spending any money in the last 2 years means that we don't have to sell. They can take a running jump if they don't meet our valuation.

I think the phrase for Boro and Bolton is:

Cough up, or Oxf*rd off.

Yeah if they can't cough up another half a million they can go jump. They need to understand that we lose a lot of the transfer
fee if our James goes...

The piece does seem to rather miss the point that until we have accepted an offer Harper doesn't have a choice to make !

First we have Derby crying becasue a club refuses to sell them a player at less than their value and now we have what seems to be an assumption that two Premiership clubs can form a cartel of sorts to pinch a player at less than their value.

Luckily we always pay a fair market price for the players we acquire.

Not convinced Harps would want to go oop north. More chance of him leaving if a Southern softie team came in for him.
I reckon he will stay.

After Arsenal take their slice we will only make a profit of a 1.6 Million or so and may be hard to replace Harper for that. I say tell them to get stuffed unless they will pay at least £4M.

That of course assumed he does want to leave - he seems the loyal sort and may well decide to stay at RFC for another promotion push.

There is a difference between loyal and proffesional.

Although Harper is willing to put in 100% if he stays, he will stay want to go if the offer comes in.

Would you want to live in Middlesbrough? I certainly wouldn't! I have to say that their style of play would suit Harps a hell of a lot better than Bolton's - although maybe he's the kind of player Bolton need?

Not sure I'd fancy Bolton too much either.
I could see him moving to a Fulham or a West Ham but his style of play would be out of sorts with Bolton's physical approach and as you say moving to Middlesbrough...hmmm..I wouldn't not even with the incentive of a large pay rise.

I don't think he'd actually have to live within the city boundary. I'd be happy with a nice place on the North York Moors, or on the Northumberland coast. At Bolton you could live in Manchester, on the coast or there's Cheshire if you want to mix it with the top stars...

Daily Star says Harper is not happy that Reading have put a £5.5m price tag on his head to scare off Prem clubs.

Can't see anyone paying that sort of sum. Looks like we could be stuck with Harper for a while longer. Yet another player who could become disenchanted with life at Reading.
