SLAMMED
papereyes So that's one central midfielder for next season. Yippee.

Is Gunnarsson playing upfront next season then?

I hope not.

Ideal A season in the championship will be good for him, then next season he'll have built a lot of confidence.

There's an embedded optimism in your post mate. What are you predicting top two or top six?

Well, I can see us finishing top two, but I guess it depends a little on what happens in the transfer market.
If we don't sign a defensive midfielder I don't see us progressing, and I think it's quite strange that we haven't already.

'greed... top six should be nailed on and I would be dissapointed if we didnt finish top two.

TBM You gotta remember he joined us from an average team in the Czech that had a capacity of 5,000 - so playing infront of 15,000+ in the Championship wont bother him unlike others who believe they are Premiership footballers!

Being from Czech republic and being a fan of his former club, I can say the average number of visitors to Mlada Boleslav club is only around 2-3k per match. When we played with Villareal there was not more then 4k people. Our stadium gets rarely sold out. So for him to play in the front of 15k people its still very great.
Anyway, hi to all readings fans.
Due Mark I watched some of Readings games last season and I realy wish you didnt went down into Championship.

I think we'll average at least 18k as long as we're in with a decent shout of the play offs and stay above 10th for most of the season.

Matejosvky last year when he came in became the linchpin for us. We even changed our kick off plans to pass it back to him than pass it back to Shoreey who lumped it out of play.

Marek will be so influential this year, 2008/09 will be Marek's season

I think the point was that being more used to playing in front of crowds of 4,000, he won't consider playing in front of 15,000 as a step down, unlike some more established players who's heads might still be in the Premier.

I think the most important word in the quote is 'WE'.

Thats what makes me think that he wants to be with us, and says a lot about the man.

(although could be a mis-translation....)

Matejovsky might be ahead of schedule but it sounds like Gunarsson might be struggling.

http://www.getreading.co.uk/sport/football/readingfc/s/2031990_bryns_new_injury_setback

When was the last time Brynar was fit and available for selection? January was it?

He'll be 33 just a couple of months into the new season and I can see him follow a Glenn Little battle against injury for the next season.

As posted on another thread - he's only a couple of years older than he was last time round. Its not like he's going to be a touch more injury prone, a touch slower. IMO, we should get rid, give him a nice carriage clock and find a younger replacement.

Yep, I'd go along with that.

Get rid of Gunarsson, replace him with a true first team midfield general and then use Karacan as the cover that Gunarsson would provide if he is here and ever fit again.

That would leave Matejovsky and Harper (or his replacement as and when he's sold)competing to play alongside A.N.Other/Cisse with Karacan adding a bit of depth.

No great loss, if Harper leaves then I would hope to see Marek and Karacan start against Forest.

That would be a bit harsh on Cisse.

I can't say I disagree much about Gunnarsson. Good player, but I think maybe we've gone as far together as we can. With Bikey and Ingimarsson able to add emergency midfield cover, plus Karacan and Cisse I think he is rather surplus to requirements. Shame. He had a habit of popping up with important goals.

Matejovsky back for pre-season - fantastic.
Matejovsky back for first game of season - good.
Matejovsky back later than previous - uh-oh.

If Harper leaves, we'll have no game-winning midfielders playing for us.
In fact, we'll be left with Karacan, Cisse, Henry, Convey and (maybe) Hunt to cover us.
Did i forget anyone? Gunar is injured (again)...
