Drew_3 everyone goes on about harper making "non-productive"sideways passes, one of the key fundamentals in football is keep posession, if you have the ball the other team can't score if they can't score you can't loose, but you can win!Christ mcghee taught us that!you dont always have to make a defense splitting pass just because you play in midfield!

Reading have put a £4.5m price tag on midfielder James Harper, who is interesting Bolton and Middlesbrough. (Daily Mirror)

If your the holding player it does help if you can tackle once and a while. I'm sorry mate, but away from home Harper is sometimes completely anonymous. When things are going well he shines, but last season I felt he often hid in games and took the easy sideways pass. The 2 games that stand out were Fulham and Bolton at home, ok everyone was shite, but he was fcuking shocking.

I say sell him and lets move foward and get a really influential midfielder to play with Marek.

since when has Haper ever been described as a holding midfielder?Siddy was the holding midfielder and we never replaced him thats why we had problems, not Harpers fault.

Siddy was never the holding midfielder, he was always the one bombing into the box with Harper sitting back to be able to restart the attack if it broke down

FFS

neither are a holding midfielder-they both have attacking, defensive and passing abilities
just like a proper midfielder should
not like these modern types who seem to be only half a player

Make your mind up!

Harper was without doubt the one of the two who was ask to hold his position a lot more to allow Sidwell the freedom to make his bursting runs. Coppell even said so at times, and I think he would probably know.

holding midfielder does not mean sitting infront of the defense and not moving at all!

Maybe not, although thats probably arguable, but it does generally mean something different to box-to-box though

ok point taken i don't think either was a holding midfielder i guess the fact that siddy was tougher in the tackle it made him out to be more defensive.

James Harper's hopes of making a swift return to the Premier League are in doubt as the Royals are demanding £5.5m for the Middlesbrough and Bolton target because Arsenal would net 40% of the deal for their former midfielder. (Daily Mirror)

Boro are hopeful of agreeing a fee with Reading for James Harper, despite being quoted £6 million for the midfielder. (Sunday Sun)

Yes, wasnt that the argument we tried to use when we didnt want to pay York more money for Murts?

yes and it is a shit one. the player's contract is something signed with them. The terms of a transfer is something signed with a club. I don't see how 1 can impact on the other unless specifically stated in the terms.

I'm sure I heard somewhere that we claimed that we released Murty during one of the times he was out injured for a while then signed him on a free transfer the same day, thus voiding any agreement we had with York. That may be (and probably is to be fair) complete bollox, however it would explain why we thought we didn't owe York anything.
