VisionSarah Star You don't have to stay at the first club you're at to have loyalty.
Torres leaving Atletico was good for the club he still supports. From what he says, it sounds like he plans to go back there one day. But he chose to go to Liverpool and shows no sign of wanting to leave them in the near future. He also took a pay cut when he went to Merseyside.
When did Gerrard ever say he was leaving Liverpool?

Seriously do you honestly believe Torres left Atletico because of loyalty to them?
OK, I didn't believe you about Gerrard but you're right. In his autobiography he says he did it because he wasn't sure they wanted to keep him. They, in return, thought he wanted to leave. The speculation didn't do his game any good, he says he was popping paracetamols and scored an own goal against Chelsea. When he finally did resign for Liverpool he made sure there was no escape clause that time.
As for Fernando Torres, this is a quote from FourFourTwo:
Q: For years you resisted the chance to leave Atletico, despite interest from some of the world’s biggest clubs. What finally made you change your mind?
A: There were lots of things. After years trying to be successful with Atletico, I saw that we just weren’t achieving that. I came to believe that the club needed a change, that I needed a change. It was the best moment for me to go. I was determined to achieve things that I thought Atletico couldn’t offer. It was a good moment for Atletico too: they could grow, get a lot of money for me and use that to build a team. I thought about it long and hard and I’m convinced I made the right decision.
