Dirk Gently I thought these sell-on clauses only last for the duration of the initial contract the player signs - if he then signs another contract after that first one has expired then the sell-on clauses no longer apply. I'm not certain on this one, but ISTR that was what the get-out was with another player in similar circumstances.

If you seriously thought that then you are not as clued in to football as you think you are. You have lost points for that statement.

I did put in the disclaimer that I wasn't certain, but we have tried something extremely similar before. This is from a few years ago :

YORK CITY have settled their long-running dispute with Reading over a settlement for the transfer of Graeme Murty.

The two clubs had been in dispute as The Minstermen claimed they were owed a payment due to Reading being promoted.

Murty moved to Reading in 1998 for £700,000, but York inserted a clause in the deal that would give them a cash payment if "The Royals" were promoted during the term of the midfielder`s contract.

York demanded the payment this summer, but Reading refused saying the clause was void as Murty had signed a new contract.

Talks have been ongoing for much of the summer, with the matter being resolved on Wednesday.

York chief executive Keith Usher said: "The two clubs have agreed a settlement figure for the remainder of the transfer and that is now the end of the matter."

rg6royal We now have 5.5 million to spend...So lets spend it!

Absolutely. We need a striker who is proven at this level.
I am very peed off that Kitson has departed to a club who I feel will be back in the Championship ten short months from now. What will Dave do then?

That Friday Feeling
Didn't Cambridge Utd go into administration? Maybe we had a deal with a different legal entity.

Still, we wouldn't try and wriggle out of a deal.

Would we?

Oh.

If they went into administration isn;t it more likely that they saw the sell on clause as an 'asset' and asked us to buy it out at a lowish level ?
If they did then we don't owe them anything, legally, morally or ethically.
Or maybe Hammond just got it wrong....

I'm disappointed kitson has left :( but for £5.5 million i think thats some good business done by hammond, and hammonds come out and said that money will be used in the transfer market. From buying kits for £150 000 and selling him for £5.5 million thats some good business for reading.
You cant keep players who havent got the ambition, desire, passion and dont have the will to put 100% into playing for reading. Now i hope we get a decent replacement :) Next player to move on to be shorey as he has made it clear he wants to leave reading, and if we can keep all the rest of the squad together i think we can make a big push towards getting promoted nest season.

I'm sure Mr Mad will spend it, but it won;t be on players... He will spend it on another non-football related project in a futher desperate attempt to get that Knighthood.

Urggh, terrible pic.

Lets hope Kitson enjoys playing the lone striker in Stoke's hoofball campaign next season.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but I think you are likely to extremely disspointed if you think we will spend more than 10% of the money.

Steve Coppell his departure will open the door for the players who remain to demand a consistent role in the team

yeah but a third of kits transfer money, plus a third of those for harps (sell on clause for arsenal?) and what we bank for the inevitable and protracted sale of shorey? that sounds like it might start adding up to real money...you might get a second rate second striker for that sort of money surely?

RIP My love affair with Reading FC

if you love reading for one player you can oxf*rd of to stoke aswell!

Kitson was the only player we had that I felt any "link" with, he spoke a lot of sense and in my opinion was a genuine role model for young players across all levels.

All the players we currently have left have no connection with the real fan in the seats & for that, my love affair with RFC (and probably football) has ended (in essence).

Wait for the, Kitson deal took so long we missed out on our targets.

Time for Coppell to prove all his doubters wrong and spend some money....

Big Foot

I can think of a number of players who are way, way more connected to the fans than Kitson ever was.
It's not as if he was even the only one who made the odd controversial comment in the media...

It's a bizarre reason to quote for claiming your 'love affair' has ended,
