You Spend £5.5m

by The 17 Bus » 19 Jul 2008 06:54

Ok lets see some names on the frame for who we could go after with that money?

Brian Howard, Barnsley. £3m rumoured, but no bids so far.

David Nugent, a proven goal scorer at this level. Pompey want 6m for him, he`s not worth that, but why don`t we try a 4-4.5m take it or leave it bid. Pompey owe us a big one anyway!!!!

Another (relative) diddyman. If we are to get a 4th striker he has to be tall and be able to hold the ball up.

Coppell wont have all that to spend, just like he didn't have £10m last season.

How about we give them Shorey and in return we get Nugent and a million quid.

I might get dodded for this again but I previously suggested Josh Kennedy.

Currently playing for Wolfsburd in Germany. Tall and has good feet. Kennedy is being groomed as Australia's replacement for Viduka and did well in the last world cup. Before I get dodded think, we need to look within the budget, this guy has played in the bundeslegia and is young.

I don't mind the sound of Nugent but would suggest a straight swap with Shorey - both have been fringe England players and in value not much between them.

Ben Watson definately looks like a good player and he is only young as well. 22 I believe, please correct me if I'm wrong.

Could be a good one - but he's very injury-prone.

Stoke Complete Kitson Signing

Fri 18 Jul, 06:09 PM

Stoke have signed striker Dave Kitson from Reading for a club record £5.5million.

The 28-year-old has agreed a three-year deal to become Potters boss Tony Pulis' first summer signing.

Pulis told the club's official website: "I think he's a natural goalscorer with great ability, while he's one that will work his socks off for the team."

Kitson scored 54 goals in 111 appearances for the Royals but has decided to move on following the club's relegation from the Premier League.

Pulis added: "I've seen a lot of him over the years and have been impressed with his attitude from afar, particularly his ability to adapt to the challenge of moving into higher divisions throughout his career at Cambridge and Reading.

"His Premier League experience over the past two seasons with Reading is also an important asset for us because we need players who've been there.

"And I don't believe the size of any fee will trouble him. He'll take all that in his stride."

Royals boss Steve Coppell said, "Dave was one of my first signings and I'd like to thank him for his contribution over the last four and a half years.

"I am sad to see him leave but it was his wish to play in the Premier League and Stoke have offered that avenue.

"We wish him the best of luck but his departure will open the door for the players who remain to demand a consistent role in the team."

There is no sell-on clause to Cambridge and Royals director of football Nick Hammond added, "Once Steve had decided that it was in the club's best interests for the deal to be done, it was my task to generate the maximum income.

"This has been achieved and the money is now available for Steve to strengthen the squad as and when he sees fit."

Now that line disturbes me

Was it just last week Coppell was getting slated becasue he wasn't giving the youngsters a try ?
Sounds like the HNA experts have got their message across and he's going to let the Academy kids show waht they can do !

Or else he's just making the obvious point that with Kitson gone there is an opportuity for someone to fill his shoes, that person could just as well be a new signing - but the current players should also be thinking 'I can make a name for myself here'

You are me and I claim my £5.

So there are now 2 of us who don't think Mr Ego is The Messiah, Mother Theresa and Nelson Mandela rolled into one! We should be careful, or else we could start something here.

Don't waste your time with answering this thread - i can tell you now that the money won't be spent on buying new players, we didn't do it last year when we had more money so why do it know - the club has stated that the squad has to be reduced more so why are we gonna get more players in.
£5.5m is going into the Mr Mad back pocket fund, got to pay for the media centre and extension to the hotel some how!!
