so if they didn't send a replacement and you went and sat in your old seat how does the steward know who really has the ticket for that seat in a dispute?

Dunno. Maybe the club could sell a 'seat sign' to season ticket holders which would be affixed to their seat. Sounds like a good idea to me.

He'll still be a grade a pcunt.

Having said that I will have enough to moan about once Jimmy Kebe lines up.

How apt that that particular idea came unstuck in parallel with our campaign on the pitch! Not enough money invested in the end product I'm afraid!

Hoop Blah
RG30
Hoop Blah Why are the club stopping selling season tickets after today?

I don't get why you'd stop unless you hit the maximum capacity.

Because the club have too at some stage release tickets for the opening league games and it's no good not having a ST seat you purchased unavailable for the 1st league game as a supporter bought that seat already.

Rubbish.

They can issue an alternative seat on a game by game basis if a potential STH wants a seat that's already seen sold for the the first, or second or third game.

Alternatively limit the sale of STs to those seats that haven't been sold already for the first game.

It's not rocket science and I can't believe the club are willing to tell someone who wants to give them £450 to take a long walk off a short pier.

I don't ever remember a closing date being in force before.

An easier way would be told hold back a number of seats in each stand, maybe a couple of thousand in total, earmarked as potential season tickets, and don't sell any individual tickets in those seats for the first couple of games.

You could then adjust the number of seats held back (almost certainly downward) as you get nearer the first game of the season if individual ticket demand requires you to free up some extra seats.

Stopping people from buying season tickets is crazy. What if (and I know the consensus of the board views this as unlikely) we make a few signings that get people thinking we mean business this year. There'll be no way for the club to capitalise on this rare outbreak of optimism.

Well they could always just start selling season tickets again....

It can only be a 'policy' decision, there isn;t going to be a physical reason why they can;t sell anymore.

It does seem a little bizarre though

I don't feel cheated, I love popping off to the football, catching up with mates, watching the game, then into Town to watch the evening game in a Pub.

Wouldn't spend a Saturday any other way...

Love it.

Maybe they just want to watch their team play football. A radical idea, I know, but it could be possible.

As was said, if they sell seat 123 in Row Z for the Plymouth game, then they can't sell that seat as a season ticket, at least without it being something a problem logistically. Which is why I said, you have 6000 or so available for general sale, and 2000 or so available to be sold as season tickets, with all individual ticket sales coming from the 6000 and all season tickets coming from the 2000. Problem solved.

Which seats would you hold back though, I assume the better ones, which are the ones that will go first for Plymouth, I assume they will have the whole away end as usual?

I'm just not sure why they need to hold any back.

If they've sold seat 123 Row Z for Plymouth and someone wants a season ticket in that area and 124 Z is available then they buy that.

They could even sell them a season ticket for 123 Z but bar the season ticket for the Plymouth game and issue a paper ticket for a different seat.

I think there was a situation when they did the half-season tickets a couple of years back, where although you'd have thought they'd be sensible and not sell them for seats that hold been sold for the next couple of games....well, this is our famed ticket office here.

There's also the potential problem of one person buying 123 Z for Plymouth, and one person buying 124 Z for Palace, meaning neither can be sold as a season ticket (at least not without having to issue extra tickets etc). Reserve 123 Z as a season ticket seat and both those individual sales are made for 124 Z instead.

The idea about reserving a couple of thousand tickets is really just to prevent cock-ups. You shouldn't need to do it, but it ends the problem of seats potentially being sold twice by blocking them from general sale.

A hardcore of say 6,000 yes. But there is a huge level of expectancy this season and this lot will be getting very restless.

I'm one of the 6,000 by the way. I'd be there every week no matter what league we're in and that has always been the case, but people expect and it's looking like that could really backfire on the club unless we pull out a few top signings to replace the outgoings.

I'm not 100% sure but I suspect there is no difference between 'reserving' a seat and having sold it - on the system at least.

So if 123 Z was sold for the first game of the season and 124 Z was sold for the second anyone then trying to buy it as a season ticket would see that it was unavailable and pick a different one - say 125 Z or 125Y.

You may wel lbe right, but it just seems that blocking thousands of seats from sale is a real sledge hammer to crack a nut.

I do recall a few years ago there were some problems with double selling of seats. Remember the whole system has been changed since then, and having had the problem once I suspect they've learned. The TO is run very differently these days and the TO manager is much better than previous incumbants - not that that will mean they are 100% perfect !!

Kitson's departure has probably scuppered that cunning plan!

Will it ?
Another interesting exercise in calculating whether getting all the money up front and getting the interest on it is worth more than getting it in stages over 9 months, perhaps factoring in the chances of someone missing the odd game.

Anyone got a calculator ?
