Wycombe Royal
papereyes
Wycombe Royal THe thing that annoyed me most about our play last season was our tendancy to hit long balls to Kitson whenever he was on the pitch, and when he wasn't we generally kept the passes shorter and on the ground. I know which style of play I prefer to watch.

It is also a style that is more likely to be successful. If you can get it right.

Is it? West Brom were not a long ballside, and neither were Hull or Bristol City.

It is a style that is good if you are just an average team with big strong players but is awful to watch.

I'd much prefer us to go back to playing 442 with traditional wingers and getting the ball out wide at every opportunity and breaking with pace. IF you can get that working you will win most matches as we proved 3 seasons ago.

Totally agree with you-in your earlier post you spoke of the way we played in 2005 that would be the season when we had the tall Kitson as a central striker and two wingers in Little and Convey plus two Premiership groomed central midfielders in Sidwell and Harper.
If you have ever read any of my posts in the past you would know that I am all for the passing game and regularly criticised the long-ball game last season which we played whether Kitson was in the team or not.
My fear is that with the same coaching staff we will play long-ball again this season and that is the main reason why Harper will go because like you ,me and many others he is fed up with it.

Good luck to Hunt who will receive our support as a Reading player but in a side which lacks physical presence in most areas of the team I fear that we will greatly miss Kitson's strength at both ends of the pitch.

We could have gone for 2 types of player, a player who likes to run about, be physical, or we could have gone for someone who waits for the perfect pass. From hearing Dundee United fans, we have the physical sort, which should be a good thing. Someone who can get about a bit is helpful in the Championship as often what defenders lack, they give in kicking you to peices. If N Hunt can counter this, play the balls to Lita, Doyle, then we will have a decent player. People moan about our lack of height, but when have we had a decent crosser of the ball to complement this?

This signing should secure Stephen Hunts services for the next few years.

I knew he 'd stay anyway............as will Doyle.

Platypuss
Ark Royal More from Hunt in friendly against Raith last weekend. Scores the fourth (well taken) and then hits the bar with a header. Looks lively.

No. They were shit. They found it impossible to cope with the massive step-up in standard from the SPL to the English leagues. I doubt that Hunt will cope either.

Well of course that could be true. He looks like a very committed and driven player from the things I've seen.

I have a hunch he will be a success.

Why all this negativity towards Hunt?

Is it because he's related to Stephen?

He's Irish?

He's not Dave Kitson?

He's played in Scotland?

Give the guy a chance....................

I think Mooney is going to be our Dave Kitson replacement.

Noel Hunt will be our new Glen Little.

I think that Lita may well be on his way out with Mooney coming in.

We would then have an entirely Irish forward line!!!

What price a Keane injury and all four forwards in the Irish squad being at Reading?

Worth a punt surely?

I've expreseed my surprise at this signing, but now he's here I'll back him and hope he does well.

Being positive, an agressive little striker who can terrorise Championship centre halves can't be a bad thing to have in the team. Let's just see if he can deliver..

hmmm... i cant help but think that this signing of less than a million is going to be the last staff investment this summer and Madejski is going to use the other £4.5mill + to add another conference room in the Hotel...
