Where will Reading Finish?

by Ian Royal » 29 Jul 2008 22:41

I don't think we've had one of these yet, although there has been similar stuff. But it'll be useful in the never ending battle of the RTGs Vs STGs.

For the record I think we'll finish in the play offs. We certainly shouldn't finish much lower than 10th.

Over to the masses.

Oh and I predict no more outgoing transfers.

I'm going with play-offs as well, although I think we might just sneak an automatic promotion place.

I voted automatic as I think we'll be too strong for most teams and we have the team spirit and quality to do it.

Mid-table - probably between 8th and 14th looking at how things are currently. I may change my mind if there are some transfers between now and the beginning of the season before some retard tries to take something else I say out of context.

Hard to say, 2 years out of this division, and last year it was as tight as the preverbial duck's behind.
Maybe that was down to poor quality, but I think we need to hang on to as many players as possible to be in with a shout.

Top 6 and I'm happy.

I know there has been alot of doom and gloom on this board.....but I genuinely believe we have a very strong squad:

GK - USA is prem class, and Fed is promising
RB - LR and Murts are both easily good enough for chamionship level
CB - Where we are strongest, a number of CBs good enough for prem in squad
LB - If Shorey stays then we have an England international, and ex-youth international in squad
RM - Arguably our weakest position, but I think both Kebe and Henry will be revelations
CM - Marek is the best player in the championship this season, and Harps is almost as good. Jem, KC and Bryn will offer good back up.
LM - In hunt and convey we have 2 quality wingers
ST - Lita and Doyle should both be playing in EPL. Long and Hunt will be good back up.

Looking at that, it is a champoship winning squad

As of now I'm going top 10, missing out on the playoffs in the last game. The position may drop if we lose any more players and don't replace them adequately.

w_r care to name these centre backs who are good enough for the Prem?

Ingimarsson, arguably Duberry - too slow
Sonko - lost it
Bikey - would agree
Cisse - can't head it

And you also think that Matejovsky > Earnshaw, McFadden, Carsley to name a few off the top of my head?

Earnshaw????????

McFadden maybe.....Carsley no.

Lets not forget MM is a czech internaional.

BK, Sonko (on his day), Doobs, and Pearce (potentially) could all do a job in prem

Was a lot more confident untill Coppell's recent comments.

If we don't sign a winger who can cross the ball, the strikers will be just as starved of chances of last season.

We should win the league, but we should have stayed up last season too.....

Too many scaremongers who don't really have a clue.

Compare the squad with other squads in this league (not just 1 or 2 big signings) and Reading have the second best, if not the best squad in the league. Sure, theres a few problem areas but look no worse than any other sides.

Coppell is proven in this league, it's where he feels at home. He's got sides promoted numerous times and I fully expect him to learn from his mistakes and achieve promotion.

Yeah, I see what you mean, our defence and central midfield are quality and opposing teams will find us impossible to break down.

Do you ever stop to consider that teams in the Championship don't have top quality strikers or midfielders? Using last seasons scores as some sort of evidence to suggest the side will struggle this season is frankly bollocks.

Do you ever stop to consider that teams aren't automatically rubbish if they play in the Championship? Cardiff got to the FA Cup Final last season and there were three Championship sides in the semis. Yes, teams aren't going to be AS strong, which is why I highlighted the Fulham result as they were barely better than Championship level, especially when they played us in Bullard's absence.

If you honestly believe that somehow our defence and the likes of Harper will go from dogshit to Gods from Premiership to Championship then I feel for you as you are about to be very disappointed this coming season.
