howser I just wish that he would go and be done with it, no comparisons with Sids this one, during his final year with us Sids worked his arse off and although it didn't work, he got a move to the second best team in Europe. On the other hand Shorey was poor last year, and is so far off the England squad now, but maybe thats the "just deserts" he has earnt. So for my opinion I hope he goes soon, someone who blatently doesn't want to be at a club can have a very detremental effect on other players there. Lets just all hope to christ that we have a replacement already identified, someone not presently at the club, as well as not being one of the dreaded "one's for the future".

Agree with every word! Shorey should look at himself...I believe him to be the most culpable from last season.

Agreed, but he wont look at himself. And if he does all he will see is a nice big fat wallet, a beautiful home, no money worries for life and now he's made a name for himself, he'll live off it until his career ends. Happy days.

Every word of the above is right - but if we were in the same position how many of us would do anything different?

Not many of us.

Most would crave the glamour, the spotlight, the money. Of course we would.

I'll be in the minority but I would love the adulation of the supporters of the club I loved, but then Shorey isn't Reading born and bread.

Fair play to him, and I'll wish him well, I just wish he showed as much fight and heart as Sidwell did.

Shorey really let us all down last season and for that reason, I will not mourn his loss.

Reading rejected a £3 million bid from Portsmouth last week, but are said to be willing to shake on a deal worth £3.5 million, which could rise to £5 million with appearance-based add-ons. The Telegraph

Apologies if this is old news. I couldn't see it when I looked back.

BBC Portsmouth manager Harry Redknapp will make a £9m swoop for Tottenham's Younes Kaboul and Reading's Nicky Shorey this week. (The Sun)

Anyone seen this? That implies that they'll get Shorey for much less than 5 mill, right?

Yep, we'll take £3.5-£4m. Which given it's the last year of his contract is a very good deal.

Why isn't anyone suggesting we take Hareiderson as part of the deal?

Exactly and we want a player who has a future here and won't just be a one season wonder.

Because he's old, slow and not a long term replacement, especially when you take into account what his wages would be. Oh, and he wouldn't want to come anyway.

Be alright for a season though, still very useful player in my opinion.

You've obviously forgotten that we've got a too large squad ....

He's not a bad player by any means, but if we go for him then we may as well have kept De La Cruz. We should be looking to improve the squad as much as possible, not stagnate as we have done in the last two years.

DLC wasn't really a specialist left back like Hareidersson though.

Agreed, but I still don't think there's much difference between the two at this stage in their careers although Hreidersson was the better player 3 or 4 years ago. Either way, neither would be a step in the right direction IMO.
