Has anyone else noticed...

by Skyline » 05 Aug 2008 16:34

I'm probably going to get either slammed or dodded for this, but like I give a oxf*rd:

Has anyone else noticed this bit on the official site where SC is talking about Shorey:

Now he's come to the last year of his contract and reiterated that he would prefer to go. For us, we're in the situation where we can't finance a big move for someone else in case Nicky doesn't go.

But first and foremost, I would love him to stay. I want him to say he's happy here and wants to face the challenge of getting back into the Premiership that way.

I'm sure, not so long ago, Coppell came out and said words to the effect of "I only want players here who want to be here", but now he wants Shorey to stay even though he (Shorey) has said he wants to leave.

Maybe he's finding it difficult to keep up that attitude after his own doubts over whether he should stay here at the end of the season - might look a bit hypocritical to some.

FFS Coppell says that he would prefer Shorey didn't want away and he gets slated

And in an unlocked and unmerged whole new thread!

I think what Coppell means is that he WANTS Shorey to want to be here. That would be his ideal scenario.

I think he knows that's never going to be the case though.

this is not about Shorey, it's about Coppell and his views on players that dont wish to slum it in the championship...

In my opinion, we need to sell up fast, £3 million + would be a good deal for a player with less than a year left on his contract

It's a very valid point actually, but you'll just be called negative so best to keep it to yourself Skyline.

No we all get the point of your post, just point out where he categorically says "I want him to stay" instead of "I want him to say he's happy here" as they do not mean the same thing.

Coppell is speaking in so many riddles and contradicting himself so much lately, that it would be easier to fathom the Da Vinci code - Dont believe anything the guy says anymore because what he says today, he'll contradict tomorrow and if you listen carefully to all of his interviews he doesn't say anything! A politicians role for him when he gives up footie management I think....still the good news is that the rose tinted spec wearers will always be behind Steve and John!

Actually, no. I thought he was a smart guy who would learn from his mistakes. His actions( or lack of them) this summer has left me pretty astonished. Same old guy with the same old excuses.

It's all well and good highlighting two seemingly contradictory statements, but leaving in the sentence that qualifies it and completely changes the meaning that you're trying to show, is a bit silly.

Steve Coppell Now he's come to the last year of his contract and reiterated that he would prefer to go. For us, we're in the situation where we can't finance a big move for someone else in case Nicky doesn't go.

But first and foremost, I would love him to stay. I want him to say he's happy here and wants to face the challenge of getting back into the Premiership that way.

Surely the unspoken "but he isn't so we'll being getting shot for as much as we can" is obvious!?

Actually this thread strikes it from a new angle. Shorey only plays well if he's happy, but Shorey isn't happy. Hence Shorey doesn't play well.
Any other business wouldn't pay Shorey well for not playing well, and both the club and Shorey then lose out. Does Shorey understand this? Is it happening?
